The best to hich out of Reggio di Calabria is to get to [[Villa san Giovanni]] by train. You can try to travel by free on Trenitalia, as the two cities are at 20 minutes distance, and there are not controls all the time. It´s really worthy to get to Villa, as this is a portuary city where all the ferries from and to Sicily leave. So there is always lots of cars, among which lots of foreign tourists, that are usually more willing to take hitchhikers than Italians.
The train station is just by the port and from there you can reach the different ferry companies going to Sicily. You just need to stay with your sign and ask the drivers.
