Prague (Praha) is the capital of the Czech Republic.<br/ >
Writing a sign "PHA" clearly informs a driver that you are going to Prague, but a sign PRAHA works better.
Hitching out
East towards Hradec Králové, Pardubice, Wrocław 67 ======= Option 1: Motorway service station on D11 =
From "Černý most", the last station : As of the B (yello) line of the metro, take a bus to the stop "Na Kovárně" (221, 303, 304, 344, 353, 398), it June 2018 there is about a 10-minute ride and probably you are going to a few euro, but not much. A hundred metres after big construction on the stop turn right and go along Tlustého street, after last house keep the right (bigger) roadhighway, then left before the cemetery. Go across the bridge to so the petrol gas station. The walk is about 1.5 km total. There usually isnnot operating, don't very much traffic, but waiting times are likely to be shortgo there. If you get lost ask anyone about "Hummer Garden" (the place only It seems as if it will stay like this for Hummers) which is just behind the stationa while...
==== Second option ====:NOTE it may seem tempting to use the spot just outside Černy Most station, as it has a lot of traffic passing through and an excellent area to stop where people drop off and pick up from the station but this spot did not work well for me. I made a sign for PL as I was heading to wroclaw, I had no luck for more than 4hrs wait, in the end me and another hitchhiker who also came to the spot ended up taking the bus. The spot may work but much earlier in the morning and in small steps. I think it is advisable to make a Hradec Karlove sign then from there head to Poland. There is not much Polish traffic between Prague and Wroclaw. (Antonopa) (07/2016).
A possibly better choice is Take metro line B (yellow) to the K+R place near "end station Černý Most" metro most. From here, take bus 221, 303, 304, 344, 353, or 398 to the bus-stop Na Kovárně. Walk east along Náchodská ≈600m to the junction with Bořetická. Turn right on Bořetická and walk 1.2km to just over the motorway bridge. Take the path to the right here into the service station. There usually isn't very much traffic, which is popular with hitchhikersbut waiting times are likely to be short. Use a sign If you get lost ask anyone for "HKHummer Garden" (Hradec Královéthe place only for Hummers) or "PL" (if going to Náchod and Poland). It's necessary to use a sign, because which is just behind the road splits in many directionsstation.
Disadvantage ==== Option 2: K+R (Parking Area) Černý Most ====Take metro line B (yellow) to the end station Černý most. There is the K+R (Park & Ride) to the right (east) of the station which is popular with hitchhikers and possibly a better choice than option 1. It's necessary to use a sign because the road splits in many directions, e.g. "HK" (Hradec Králové) or "PL" (if going to Náchod and Poland). The disadvantage of this option is that there are only cars traveling out of Prague - and not those going coming from Prague ring road. But However, there is no non-freeway solution to get a lift on for those cars.
Northeast towards Mladá Boleslav, Liberec, Görlitz 1065
Option 1: Motorway service station on E65
Take metro line B (yellow) to the last station Černý Most. From there catch bus number 220 to the stop Do Čertous. When you get off the bus, the petrol station is behind the big orange building with "H1" on it.
You can hitch from a petrol station on the E65. ==== Option 2: K+R (Parking) Černý Most ====Take the metro line B (yellow) to the last end station, Černý Mostmost. From there catch bus number 220 There is the K+R (Park & Ride) to the stop Do Čertous'right (east) of the station. Lots of hitchhikers use this place. Use a sign "MB" (Mladá Boleslav) or "LB" (Liberec). It's necessary to use a sign because the road splits in many directions. When you get off Due to the construction of sections of the busPrague Ring (R1), long-distance traffic is lower each day; however, the petrol station this spot is behind the big orange building with "H1" on itstill usable.
==== Second option =Northwest towards Ústí nad Labem, Teplice, Dresden, Berlin 855 ===Warning: If you are passing through Dresden, take a look at the Dresden hitchwiki page. From either of the spots you can take rides to OMV petrol station before Lovosice or to the Agip petrol station after Ústí nad Labem. The hitchhiking positions there are also good.
Another option is to use the K+R place near "Černý Most" ==== Option 1: D8 ====Take metro station line C (the same for going red) to Hradec Králové); lots of hitchhikers use this placeHolešovice. Use a sign "MB" (Mladá Boleslav)From here, "LB" take bus 201 to Vychovatelna (Liberec3 stops). It's necessary to use You will find a sign, because the road splits in many directions. Because of building great spot with lots of Prague Ring (R1) sub-parts, long-distance traffic is lower each day, but this spot is still usablegoing slow right at the bus station.
=== North, Northwest towards Ústí nad Labem, Teplice, Dresden, Berlin 855===:(Warning'Tried: If you ) The author had not noted that there are passing through Dresdenthree lanes on this road, and the two inside lanes take a look at the cars to Dresden hitchwiki page. From either The bus lane of course is great and the spots you can take rides cars are not going too fast, but anyone going to Dresden on this road would need to OMV petrol station before Lovosice or cut across a few car lanes to the Agip petrol station after Ústí nad Labemcome pick you up. The hitchhiking positions Quite possible but there are also goodbetter options than this.
==== First option Option 2: OMV petrol station on D8====Easily reachable OMV petrol station, not so many cars but almost anybody can take you 2 km to the second spot. From Take metro terminal station "Letňany" line C (red line C) take to Letňany. Take any bus heading north one stop, or walk 500 m north, to the bus stop "Výstaviště Letňany". Behind bus stop Keep walking northwest along Tupolevova for 500 m, crossing over Beranovych to the pedestrian crossing at the crossroad turn left to traffic lights. Cross Tupolevova here and keep heading southwest on the footway pathway leading onto Opocenska. Walk ≈250 m along Opocenska and after 300 m turn right to the you will see a small footpath going straight to the petrol station. The turn is just right (before the pedestrian/cycle bridge over the highway) heading straight to the OMV petrol station (≈150 m walk).
==== Second option Option 3: Bigger OMV petrol station on D8 ====First bigger petrol station (OMV) at D8. From Take metro terminal station ”Letňany” line C (red line C) take to Letňany. Take bus (195, 140, 158, 110, or 269) to the stop “Obchodní Obchodní centrum Čakovice”Čakovice. Turn back (from bus in the direction), cross the roundabout bus came from and walk still straight another 800 m ≈1km along Kostelecká (past the roundabout) until you'll see reach the sliproad coming off the D8. This is just before the bridge over the D8. Turn left into the highway sliproad and after walking ≈100m, you will come to the petrol station will be on your left(with a McDonalds behind it).
West towards Plzeň, Klatovy, Nürnberg, München 550
Most of drivers goes go directly to PilsenPlzeň. But However, getting a direct lift to Germany or even further is not unusual. All petrol stations at on the 5 are fine for hitchhiking although often with little traffic.
==== First option Option 1: Rozvadovská spojka ====#Take metro line B (yellow line) to "Hůrka", walk . Turn left (west) out of the station and then turn north towards the Albert supermarket. Walk around the left side of Albert shop, upstairs supermarket heading up and then over a small bridgeuntil you reach a school. Walk around the school maintaining on the same directionleft side, heading north, until you reach Běhounkova. You will Walk ≈ 30m north along Běhounkova until you see a the gap in the wall that hides on the left - cut through the road we need to parking place and take, so go behind it. There is a the path through the gap and you will reach the large bus stop and a big roadon Nárožní. Cross it and continue right to the crossroads, there go intersection with Bucharova. Turn left. You on Bucharova - you will see signs to "Plzeň". Go over the bridge and turn left down the entry slip road to the leftRozvadovská spojka. After the turn bend, there is a great place for hitchhiking. Alight: lights, straight, long and lot hard shoulder with lots of space to stop. Although it's not allowed to stay there, the police don't make troubles thereany problems here.#Take metro line B (yellow) to Nové Butovice. Then take bus 184 (direction Hradčanská) or bus 174 (direction Vypich) and get off at the second stop: "Šafránkova". (The stop is a request stop, so it means that you have to push the button in the bus to stop it). Cross over the road (Bucharova) and walk south 200m to the slip road, and continue to the hitching point on Rozvadovská spojka as described above.#Take metro line A (green) to end station Nemocnice Motol. Turn right out of the station to the bus-stop. Then take bus 184 (direction Velká Ohrada) or bus 174 (direction Luka) and get off at the second stop: "Šafránkova". (The stop is a request stop, so it means that you have to push the button in the bus to stop it). Walk south ≈150m to the slip road, and continue to the hitching point on Rozvadovská spojka as descibed above.
==== Second option ====(Edit by Moskewskaja, 21st may, 2016)<br/ >First petrol station behind Prague on 5 Fairly big one with McD's and enough cars. From metro The bus stop "ZličínŠafránkova" is much much closer to the highway (line Bthan in the directions for 1). I use this option frequently to go home. And there I was also asked for the documents by police, yellow)and when I asked them if it is allowed to hitchhike there, take a bus 307they told me yes, 308so don´t worry! It is not really highway, 311you are still in the city. If you are travelling west, 380 do not enter Beroun or 602 Plzeň because it is hard to "Rudná, škola" stophitchhike out. So many hours I spent in Plzeň. The ticket costs 18 Kč (~eur 0.66; 1 zone out of Prague). Once On this highway you get off, walk couple of meters in can meet all the direction the bus came from and turn left onto a street called "Na Přídělu"cars going west. You should see Just stay on the gas highway, stop at some petrol station in the distance. Walk There is one Shell close to the end of the streetRokycany, before Plzeň, there will be a footpath towards the maybe with little bit expensive petrol. Or you can go just to Rudná petrol station, which is close (15 km) to Prague, but it is quite big with many cars and trucks. You need travellers to the opposite direction so get West (Germany, France, England, Spain), your goal should be to arrive to the other side of motorway by the tunnel at the end of closer Svatá Kateřina petrol station. It's a 5lies just before czech/german border and many czech drivers-especially trucks-10 minutes walk in totalthey stop there to tank or buy something.
==== Third option Option 2: Motorway service station Rudná ====From Take metro terminal station "line B (yellow) to Zličín" . Then take bus 307, 308, 311, 380, or 602 to stop Rudná, škola. (yellow line BThe ticket costs 18 Kč, ≈€0.66; 1 zone out of Prague) go under . Walk 60m back in the direction the road bus came from and immediately turn leftinto Na Přídělu street. Continue along You should see the road for 150 m petrol station in the distance. Walk 350m to crossroad with traffic lightsthe end of the street. There will be a footpath towards the petrol station 150m away. You can stand right need the opposite direction so get to the other side of motorway by the tunnel under the motorway on the triangleright. It's a fairly big service station with McD and enough cars.Note: As of May 2018, down at the highway (police can kick you out) or ask people at the nearby petrol station, KFC or parking lots. None on the side of the places D5 leading westwards is good (1st under construction and 2nd option are recommended)the corresponding exit therefore closed. Try catching a lift on the ramp near Horelice.

Every bigger petrol station junction at D1 is good for hitchhiking.==== First option Zličín ====Easily reachable petrol station, not a lot of traffic though. Good in bad-weather or snow conditions. Go to the Take metro station "Chodov" line B (red line Cyellow), there is big shopping centre, try to not get lost there and find the road "Roztylská" going through itterminal station Zličín. Go to under the traffic lights at the end of this tunnel road Řevnická and continue by following cyclopath - yellow signs with "Záběhlice" and/or "Chodovec" writtenturn immediately left. After 700 m you will get Continue south along Řevnická for 150m to the bridge over the motorwaycrossroads with traffic lights. Use the staircase You can stand right at the beggining of the bridge to get triangle down to on Rozvadovská spojka (police can kick you out) or ask people at the nearby petrol station, KFC, or parking lots.<br />Alternatively you can stay behind the station exit at the end None of left lane, at the left side of the roadthese places are good (Options 1 and 2 are better).

Every bigger petrol station on D1 is good for hitchhiking.= Second option === Option 1: Motorway service station on E65 ====From Take metro station "Opatov" line C (red line C) follow the main road upto Chodov. Walk along look for the road about 5 minutes, keep going over the crossroad big shopping centre and the bridge over the motorway. Now you might see other hitchhikers on the slip-road. Alternativelyenter, you can take bus number 177 from metro "Opatov" keeping to next (request) stop "U Dálnice". Be careful and stay on the slip roadground floor, not on locate the motorway exit consisting of stairs and elevators (sometimes police passes by).<br />Very common spot, not so good in fact. Average waiting time is less than one hour. If you stuck there, you can walk 2 km to the spot 4 (again, if police goes around, they'll tell you mention a lift that leads below); this exit leads to walk on the field beside motorway)bus stops.
==== Third option ====Especially good option at night when there is little traffic at spots 1 and 2. At the end of bus stop opposite to metro station "Kačerov<i>(<b>Note:</b> " (red line C)this shopping center has excellent wifi, find stairs going down. You will go over train trackscharges with USB/charger ports for phones, stairs down againtoilets on the ground floor, then around metro tracks and turn right before a water fountain outside the motorway. You will see OMV petrol station but just cross the grass strip and 2 lanes leading to the station and stay at the shoulder at the beggining of motorway (there is sign). Police doesn't make troubles there and for cars it means end of 50 kmph limit, so they're still quite slow. The shoulder is wide, safe and alight.toilet! Flippin heck I could live here!"<br /i>There are not many cars at that petrol station behind or they have different directions (often Chillion).
==== Fourth option ====Head on outside and turn right, follow the path and cross to the SONY building. Now keeping on the same road walk for 20mins and you'll reach the SHELL petrol station.<br />[[File:ujezdupruhonicpragueAlternatively, you can stay past the station exit at the end of the left lane, on the left side of the road.jpg|thumb|right|250px|Hitchhikers at Újezd u Průhonic Easily reachable petrol station, not a lot of traffic though and is sometimes enforced by a employee in Shell uniform. Both are not advisable. You can try standing at the ramp to the motorway just outside Chodov Mall. Regular local hitchhikers were aroundFirst go inside, as well as hitchhikers doing to floor 0. Walk to the raceeasternmost part of the mall, there use the elevator to floor -2. In the parking house, walk east to the exit. There's the ramp. You might have to wait long for a ride. First motorway petrol station behind Prague, really good hitchhiking but takes extra time to get there.==== Option 2: Motorway Junction Opatov====From Take metro line C (red) to "Opatov" (red line C) exit straight out of . Walk south ≈800m along Chilská past the station crossroads and take a left following over the winding red ramp up motorway bridge to street level/the beginning of the entrance slip road above. You have Again, if police come around, they'll tell you to show valid ticket or buy one from driver!walk on the field beside motorway.
Get to "K Sukovu" ==== Option 3: 5.května at the beginning of expressway ====<strike>Take metro line C (takes roughly 10 minutesred) – you'll know you're there when you to Kačerov. Find stairs going down, go over train tracks and then stairs down again. Then walk around the metro tracks and turn right before the motorway. You will see the OMV petrol station in but don't walk that far; instead, just cross the grass strip and the 2 lanes of the distance slip road leading to your right after getting off the busstation from the main road 5. Follow května to get to the main road in bus direction itself. Stand on 5.května at the beginning of the motorway on the hard shoulder (there is sign). The police don't make any problems there and for cars, it means the end of the 50 kmph limit so they're still quite slow. The shoulder is wide, safe and lit.Especially good option at night when there is little traffic at spots 1 and after 400 m go over 2. <br /> There are not many cars at the OMV petrol station or they have different directions (often Pilsen).</strike><br>The beginning of the motorway bridge and down has been shifted a few hundred meters back into the city center, thus it is now illegal to use this spot (received a fine in June 2016 for it). You can still use the petrol station on your right, but indeed the amount of cars going in the direction of Brno is very small here.
==== Fifth option ====Quite near city centreThe sign showing the start of the expressway (and also 50km/h speed limit) is located 1.3km from the original location, cars are slowon 5.května just before it passes over Vyskočilova, high traffic density and nobody expect hitchhikers there but you can so legally it should be luckypossible to hitch before it. At this spot there is a wide shoulder, lights, 50km/h speed limit. Take metro station "Vyšehrad" line C (red line C) get to the Budějovická. From exit on Budějovická street, turn left some metres and then turn right side of (northeast) on Vyskočilova. Walk northeast ≈350m until the main exit slip road - one is leading to on the huge bridge and city centre, opposite is yours - and use left just before the sidewalk for about 300 m5.května overpass. After Cut across the small bridge, continue left grass embankment and walk up to 5.května itself and you will see the main road and hitchhikeexpressway sign. There are 3 lanes and one parking lane and ussualy some place This spot looks good, but it needs to stopbe tested.
==== Sixth option Option 4: Motorway service station Újezd u Průhonic (BEST WAY TO WIENNA) ====Go up from Take metro line C (red) to Opatov. Exit straight out of the station "Roztyly" and take a left following the winding red ramp up to street level/the road above. From the bus-stop next to the Replay shop, take bus X363 for 24kr (not a bus 363) to stop K Sukovu (red line Cbuses leave every 15-30 minutes) . Continue on the main road where Bus went and the street will turn kind of right into Formanská and then 20 mtrs ahead it splits into left and right. Stay on the right hand/main road and cross all the parking places bridge over highway and on the right is a pathway going down to the Mc Donalds + Gas Station on the higway. The best jackpot a hitch hiker can hit. , going over motorwaybridge. Hard shoulder there <br />This is good and alight at night the first motorway petrol station past Prague, really Best hitchhiking spot but it's not allowed takes extra time to stay get there. And cars are already Also, you have to show a bit fast.valid ticket or buy one from driver for the bus trip!

Public transport
Public transport network in Prague is really good, you can get in reasonable time almost anywhere at any time. Ticket costs: 30 minutes - 24 Kč (eur 1), 90 minutes - 32 Kč (~eur 1.30). If you plan to stay longer, you can buy a ticket for one day - 110 Kč (~eur 4.50) or three days - 310 Kč (~eur 12.60). You have to validate ticket when entering metro station, tram or bus. The fine for fare dodging is 800 Kč (~eur 32) if you pay it at that place or till15 days.
Traveling without ticket Blackriding in Prague is easy and worth the risk (much cheaper). You can find controllers easily at: Farebandit  In subway contollers usually (is not always) wear dark blue uniforms. If you see one or advised, as ticket inspectors are more of them getting common than in the wagon, get out immediatelyyears past. But they also stay in big groups (with city police) in stations' corridors or at the end of escalators. Do wide turns They will ask you to see behind the corner show a passport, and use classic stairs or elevator if possible. If they ocuppy one exit, carefully try next one or go to the next station. The most controlled stations are "I.P. Pavlova", "Florenc", "Muzeum" and "Můstek". In buses and trams they rarely wear uniforms but they don't check them often. If you get caught it depends on your acting skills and the controller. Being honest is another good way. Be polite but refuse to give him ID/passport (left in a hostel etc., acting as foreigner from non-EU country could help too). If he is solo or max. two of them, they often let you go, it's not worth the time. If not they will call police or are very likely to take you have to go with them to the nearest police department to identify yourself. That can be just another try to scare you off to show ID. Consider running out when they least expect it (fine could be higher then, up to 1500 czk/60 €). User Dante1919: "I travelled with metro three days in Prague with my backpack and etc. Never saw any kind of control and never had troubles with it. Mostly I was getting to central so called dangerous stations and nothing happened. As a master of black riding :) I who can say, if you get caught just tell the controller that you are travelling without money and demand immediate payment before they will leave let you alone. It worked for me in 5 different countries." User Gallar: "I have been in prague thousands of times and I have exactly oposite experiences than Dante1919 does. I wouldn't recommending going black in Prague metrogo. They are often rude and in case of getting caught you have 99% chance of getting fee as there is no excuses working for them"
At metro stations you can find maps of Prague with public transport, this can be useful, because the lines are changing (especially bus lines). You can easily find a connection online at IDOS - works for the entire CR or alternatively for Prague only: DPP.
