Prague (Praha) is the capital of the Czech Republic.<br/ >Writing a sign "PHA" clearly informs a driver that you are going to Prague, but a sign PRAHA works better.
A lot of Czech people don't speak English. (You can try German.) The Czech word for petrol station is "Benzinka". This might come in handy. (MF)== Hitching out ==
An abbreviation PHA written === East towards Hradec Králové, Pardubice, Wrocław 1167 ======= Option 1: Motorway service station on your sign clearly informs a driver that you go to Prague.D11 ====
== Hitchhiking out ===== East towards Hradec Králové, Pardubice, Wrocław 1167 ===From "Černý most", the last station : As of B-line metro (yellow) take bus to station "Na Kovárně" (221, 303, 304, 344, 353, 398), it June 2018 there is about 10 minutes ride and probably you are going to pay few crowns, but not much. Hundred metres behind the stop turn right and go along Tlustého street, after last house keep a big construction on the right (bigger) roadhighway, then left before the cemetery. Go across the bridge to so the petrol gas station. It is about 1not operating,5 km, but I think it is the best hitch spot on this direction. There usually arendon't too many cars, but I've never been go there more than half an hour. If you get lost ask anyone about "Hummer Garden" (the place only It seems as if it will stay like this for Hummers) which is just behind the stationa while...
==== Second option ====Maybe better is :NOTE it may seem tempting to use K+R place near "Černý the spot just outside Černy Most" metro station, lots as it has a lot of hitchhikers use traffic passing through and an excellent area to stop where people drop off and pick up from the station but this placespot did not work well for me. Use I made a sign HK (Hradec Králové) or for PL (if you want as I was heading to Náchod wroclaw, I had no luck for more than 4hrs wait, in the end me and Poland)another hitchhiker who also came to the spot ended up taking the bus. The spot may work but much earlier in the morning and in small steps. It's necessary I think it is advisable to use the make a Hradec Karlove sign, because cars then from there are going head to many directionsPoland.Disadvantage There is that there are only cars traveling out of Prague - not those going from much Polish traffic between Prague ring roadand Wroclaw. But there is no non-freeway solution how to pick up those cars. My personal experience (dj-bobrAntonopa) for east way (Hradec Králove, Poland) is that you can try to hitchhike at the beginning of D11 Highway (50.098664 N, 14.597708 E07/2016). It's a motorway, but police doesn't care, if you stand safe at the shoulder.
Take metro line B (yellow) to the end station Černý most. From here, take bus 221, 303, 304, 344, 353, or 398 to the bus-stop Na Kovárně. Walk east along Náchodská ≈600m to the junction with Bořetická. Turn right on Bořetická and walk 1.2km to just over the motorway bridge. Take the path to the right here into the service station. There usually isn't very much traffic, but waiting times are likely to be short. If you get lost ask anyone for "Hummer Garden" (the place only for Hummers) which is just behind the station. ==== Option 2: K+R (Parking Area) Černý Most ====Take metro line B (yellow) to the end station Černý most. There is the K+R (Park & Ride) to the right (east) of the station which is popular with hitchhikers and possibly a better choice than option 1. It's necessary to use a sign because the road splits in many directions, e.g. "HK" (Hradec Králové) or "PL" (if going to Náchod and Poland). The disadvantage of this option is that there are only cars traveling out of Prague and not those coming from Prague ring road. However, there is no non-freeway solution to get a lift for those cars. === Northeast towards Mladá Boleslav, Liberec, Görlitz 1065 ===

You can hitch from a gas ==== Option 1: Motorway service station on the E65. ====Take the metro line B (yellow) to the last station, Černý Most. From there catch bus number 220 to the stop called "Do Čertous". When you get off the bus , the gas petrol station is behind the big orange building with "H1" on it.
==== Second option Option 2: K+R (Parking) Černý Most ====Another option Take metro line B (yellow) to the end station Černý most. There is to use the K+R place near "Černý Most" metro station (Park & Ride) to the same for going to Hradec Královéright (east), lots of the station. Lots of hitchhikers use this place. Use a sign "MB " (Mladá Boleslav), or "LB " (Liberec). It's necessary to use the a sign, because cars are there going to the road splits in many directions. Because Due to the construction of building sections of the Prague Ring (R1) sub-parts, long-distance traffic is lower each day; however, but this spot is still usable. For Hradec Králové and Poland direction, use spot at the beginning of D11 highway.
=== North, Northwest towards Ústí nad Labem, Teplice, Dresden, Berlin 55===You can also get to an easily reachable petrol station on the motorway getting north walking. You must go to "Letňanská" (e.g. bus 195, 140, 158 from metro "Prosek"). Then going down from the bus, Warning: If you can see the entrance of the motorway straight ahead. Put yourself so you have the motorway on your rightare passing through Dresden, then cross the street (going north then), and then the parking, and go behind the buildings, looking for take a small bridge (“most” in Czech), going above look at the motorwayDresden hitchwiki page. From there either of the spots you will see can take rides to OMV petrol station before Lovosice or to the Agip petrol stationafter Ústí nad Labem. There are not so many people stopping The hitchhiking positions there, but they all are (almost) going in the also good direction. Just ask if they are going north (“sever”) or if they can just let you on the next petrol station (“příští pumpa”/“prschieschtee pumpa”), where there will be normally more cars.
==== Second option Option 1: D8 ====You need to get to the first big petrol station OMV with McDonalds on D8Take metro line C (E55red)to Holešovice. From metro station ”Letňany” take bus (195, 140, 158, 110here, 269) to the stop “Obchodní centrum Čakovice”. Then on the other side of the road take bus (202) and ride one stop 201 to “Na Lukách”. Bus goes once in an hour, so it's better to walk there for 10 minutes. The bus stop “Na Lukách” is very close to D8'Vychovatelna (E553 stops) motorway. If you took bus or walked, then go towards the bridge and from there you can see the petrol station You will find a great spot with lots of traffic still going slow right at left. From that petrol station you can either hitch-hike to Dresden directly or to the last petrol bus station OMV before Lovosice or to the Agip petrol station after Ústí nad Labem. The hitch-hiking position there is also good.
:(Warning'Tried: If you ) The author had not noted that there are passing through three lanes on this road, and the two inside lanes take the cars to Dresden. The bus lane of course is great and the cars are not going too fast, take but anyone going to Dresden on this road would need to cut across a look on Dresden hitchwiki pagefew car lanes to come pick you up. Quite possible but there are better options than this.
==== Third option Option 2: OMV petrol station on D8====Use the third option, if you don't want to go with so many buses. Just take the red Take metro line C (Cred) to the terminal station Letňany and then . Take any bus heading north one stop, or walk from there 500 m north, to the spot marked by FatidikVýstaviště Letňany. It is 300m Keep walking from there. Walk northwest along the street Tupolevova (big bend roadfor 500 m, where crossing over Beranovych to the metro exits pedestrian crossing at the traffic lights. Cross Tupolevova here and bus stations are keep heading southwest on) in the direction pathway leading onto Opocenska. Walk ≈250 m along Opocenska and you will see a small footpath to the buses go right (starting northwards, then bending westwards) and at before the second crossing left into pedestrian/cycle bridge over the Beranových until the end, then right and highway) heading straight until you see a small walking path leading you to the service OMV petrol station. There are not so many cars and you may wait a little longer there(≈150 m walk).
==== Fourth option Option 3: Bigger OMV petrol station on D8 ====From Take metro line C (red) to Letňany. Take bus 195, 140, 158, 110, or 269 to the petrol station point described above walk about 2km at stop Obchodní centrum Čakovice. Turn back in the side of direction the highway bus came from and walk ≈1km along Kostelecká (in past the direction Dresden/Berlinroundabout) and until you will reach another OMV petrol station which has a McDonaldsthe sliproad coming off the D8. This is way more populated spot, I only waited less than an hour to be picked up to be driven to Berlinjust before the bridge over the D8.Thaddl was there on a sunday evening, when seemingly nearly only people from Prague came to have some McD-food Turn left into the sliproad and go back againafter walking ≈100m, and had you will come to wait several hours. And it is not so easy to walk there anymore, as after half the way petrol station (with a new exit ramp is blocking the way a littleMcDonalds behind it).
=== West towards Plzeň, Klatovy, Nürnberg, München 50===From metro "Zličín" (line B, yellow), take bus nr 380 or 308 Most drivers go directly to Rudná. The village main road goes straight through itPlzeň. Stop around the center of the village, busstop "Rudná Hořelice" which is the 13th stop. Ticket costs approximately 18 Koruna. You'll see the motorway passing on the bridge on your right. Go under the bridge and walk on the main road until the 3rd right turn which is called Hořelická. Take the third road , go straight until the end and you will see (Ke hřisti). Take the small path at the end of the streetHowever, you'll arrive at the gas station. It's a 5-10 min walk. Avoid going into Plzeň or getting dropped off on the bypass. It's better to try to find a direct ride lift to Germany from or even further is not unusual. All petrol stations on the last petrol station before Plzeň. ( ** We 2 guys waited here 5 are fine for 45 minutes before getting a hitch hike upto the border of Germany post which going to Paris was easyhitchhiking although often with little traffic. Verified on 6th September 2011)
==== Second option Option 1: Rozvadovská spojka ====#Take metro line B (yellow) to Hůrka. Turn left (west) out of the station and then turn north towards the Albert supermarket. Walk around the left side of Albert supermarket heading up and then over a small bridge until you reach a school. Walk around the school on the left side, heading north, until you reach Běhounkova. Walk ≈ 30m north along Běhounkova until you see the gap in the wall on the left - cut through the parking place and take the path through the gap and you will reach the large bus stop on Nárožní. Cross it and continue to the intersection with Bucharova. Turn left on Bucharova - you will see signs to "Plzeň". Go over the bridge and turn left down the entry slip road to Rozvadovská spojka. After the bend, there is a tram great place for hitchhiking: lights, straight, hard shoulder with lots of space to stop. Although it's not allowed to stay there, the police don't make any problems here.#Take metro line B (9, 10yellow) to Nové Butovice. Then take bus 184 (direction Hradčanská) or bus 174 (direction Vypich) and get off at the second stop: "MotolŠafránkova". (The stop is a request stop, so it means thatyou have to push the button in the bus to stop it). Cross over the road (Bucharova) and walk south 200m to the slip road, and continue to the hitching point on Rozvadovská spojka as described above.#Take metro line A (green) to end station s where Nemocnice Motol. Turn right out of the station to the bus-stop. Then take bus 184 (direction Velká Ohrada) or bus 174 (direction Luka) and get off at the motorway link startssecond stop: "Šafránkova". Not (The stop is a perfect placerequest stop, so it means that you have to push the button in the bus to stop it). Walk south ≈150m to the slip road, but cars are not too fast and there are quite a lot of Germans passingcontinue to the hitching point on Rozvadovská spojka as descibed above.
==== Third option ====(Edit by Moskewskaja, 21st may, 2016)<br/ >From metro The bus stop "ZličínŠafránkova" is much much closer to the highway (line B, yellowthan in the directions for 1) . I use this option frequently to go home. And there I was also asked for the the crossroad on traffic lightsdocuments by police, and when I asked them if it is allowed to hitchhike there's a bridge before (under , they told me yes, so don´t worry! It is not really highway, you are still in the bridge city. If you are railways)travelling west, so walk on do not enter Beroun or Plzeň because it is hard to hitchhike out. So many hours I spent in Plzeň... On this highway you can meet all the traffic light and stand right cars going west. Just stay on the trianglehighway, stop at some petrol station. There is one Shell close to Rokycany, before Plzeň, maybe with little bit expensive petrol. Or you can catch cars from both waysgo just to Rudná petrol station, they are going slowly therewhich is close (15 km) to Prague, but it is quite big with many cars and there's also a place trucks. You travellers to stop. We have been waiting there for 10 minutes. the West ( This OPTION Does not work - Don't Waste Time. verified on 6th Sep 2011 Germany, France, England, Spain) Look at the picture for details: your goal should be to arrive to Svatá Kateřina petrol station.imageshack.usIt lies just before czech/img651/7165/topilsengerman border and many czech drivers-especially trucks- they stop there to tank or buy something.jpg nice spot
==== Fourth option Option 2: Motorway service station Rudná ====I go quite often Prague<->Pilsen and this is the best spot for me. Take metro line B (yellow line) to "Hůrka"Zličín. Then take bus 307, 308, 311, 380, or 602 to stop Rudná, walk around Albert shopškola. (The ticket costs 18 Kč, upstairs and over the small bridge≈€0.66; 1 zone out of Prague). Walk around 60m back in the school maintaining direction the same directionbus came from and turn left into Na Přídělu street. You will should see a wall that hides the road we need petrol station in the distance. Walk 350m to take, so go behind itthe end of the street. There is a bus stop and will be a big road. Go right to footpath towards the crossroads, there go leftpetrol station 150m away. You will se signs "Plzeň". Go over need the bridge and down opposite direction so get to the left just around other side of motorway by the tunnel under the motorway on the corner right. It's a fairly big service station with McD and there enough cars.Note: As of May 2018, the petrol station on the side of D5 leading westwards is a great place. Quite long under construction and lot of space to stopthe corresponding exit therefore closed. Police stopped only once but after 2 minutes talking they went out and let me thereTry catching a lift on the ramp near Horelice.
Without sign ==== Option 3: Motorway junction at Zličín ====Take metro line B (or with sign "PLZ" or "Plzeň"yellow) you can easily get to Plzeň (donthe terminal station Zličínt take cars before Plzeň). For Germany is better Go under the road Řevnická and turn immediately left. Continue south along Řevnická for 150m to use sign the crossroads with traffic lights. You can stand right at the triangle down on Rozvadovská spojka ("D"police can kick you out) (and again, take only cars going to Germany or ask people at least to the border where is good nearby petrol station, KFC, or parking lots. None of these places are good (Options 1 and 2 are better).
=== Southeast towards Brno, BratislavaOstrava, BudapestBratislava, Vienna, Kraków 505965 <br />+ south & South towards České Budějovice, Linz 55 ===It's important good to write have a sign!at this road and definitely for direction south. Every bigger petrol station on D1 is good for hitchhiking.==== First option Option 1: Motorway service station on E65 ====From Take metro Opatov (line C, (red) follow noise to the motorwayChodov. Walk along the road about 5 minutes, keep going over look for the crossroad big shopping centre and the bridge over the motorway (see second map). Now you might see other hitchhikers on the slip-road. Alternativelyenter, you can take bus number 177 from metro Opatov keeping to next station called "U Dálnice". (It's request stopthe ground floor, so press locate the stop-button after the bus starts moving.) Be careful exit consisting of stairs and stay on the slip road, elevators (not on the motorway (sometimes police passes byto mention a lift that leads below). Average waiting time is less than one hour. From ; this exit leads to the bridge you can see the petrol station 'Újezd u Průhonic' – it's about 1.5&nbsp;km by motorway, but it isn't a good placebus stops.
<i>(<b>Note:</b> "this shopping center has excellent wifi, charges with USB/charger ports for phones, toilets on the ground floor, a water fountain outside the toilet! Flippin heck I could live here!"</i>thumb|right|350px|Hitchhikers at Újezd u Průhonic petrol station. Regular local hitchers were about, as well as hitchers doing the race.Chillion)
==== Second option ====Use Head on outside and turn right, follow the petrol station, it is a good place, easier path and cross to reach the SONY building. Now keeping on the same road walk for 20mins and you'll get rides quicklyreach the SHELL petrol station. From metro "Opatov" (line C<br />Alternatively, red) climb you can stay past the station exit at the steps to end of the motorway. Look left lane, on the bus stop timetables left side of the road.Easily reachable petrol station, not a lot of traffic though and is sometimes enforced by a employee in Shell uniform. Has cover for the stop "K Sukovu" in bad-weather or snow conditions. In all honesty this station seems iffy. There isn't much traffic on route 363 (you both gas stations. Both are going south, the buses should leave every 15 minutes, and you not advisable. You can use try standing at the same ticket that you got on ramp to the metro)motorway just outside Chodov Mall. Get First go inside, to floor 0. Walk to "K Sukovu" – you'll know you're the easternmost part of the mall, there when you see use the petrol station elevator to your rightfloor -2. From "K Sukovu" In the parking house, walk in east to the direction exit. There's the bus is going ramp. You might have to wait long for about 500ma ride. After you cross the motorway bridge, the petrol station is on your rightWe gave up after an hour. This is a perfect spot! (MF)
Tom shared this spot with about 20 other hitchhikers during a race in April 2007 Motorway Junction Opatov====Take metro line C (most started at red) to "Opatov". Walk south ≈800m along Chilská past the crossroads and over the motorway bridge to the beginning of the entrance slip-road spot described above. Instead of walking, but just got dumped at this petrol station). While his teammates fell asleep on the grass for 3 hours you can take bus number 177 from metro "Opatov" to next (!request), he was able stop "U Dálnice" and then walk 100m east to chat with the beginning of the slip road. Now you might see other hitchhikers on the slip-road.Be careful and driversstay on the slip road, and get ride offers towards Brnonot on the motorway (sometimes police passes by).<br />Very common spot but, Bratislava, Budapestin fact, Vienna and Krakównot so good. The average Average waiting time was 20–30 minutesis less than one hour. If you get stuck there, you can walk 2 km along the motorway to 'option 4' (see below). Again, if police come around, plus there were several truck drivers promising longer lifts after a few hoursthey' restll tell you to walk on the field beside motorway.
==== Third option Option 3: 5.května at the beginning of expressway ====<strike>Take metro line C (red) to Kačerov. Find stairs going down, go over train tracks and then stairs down again. Then walk around the metro tracks and turn right before the motorway. You will see the OMV petrol station but don't walk that far; instead, just cross the grass strip and the 2 lanes of the slip road leading to the station from the main road 5.května to get to the main road itself. Stand on 5.května at the beginning of the motorway on the hard shoulder (there is sign). The police don't make any problems there and for cars, it means the end of the 50 kmph limit so they're still quite slow. The shoulder is wide, safe and lit.Especially good option at night when there is little traffic at spots 1 and 2. <br /> There are not many cars at the OMV petrol station or they have different directions (often Pilsen).</strike><br>The beginning of the motorway has been shifted a few hundred meters back into the city center, thus it is now illegal to use this spot (received a fine in June 2016 for it). You can still use the petrol station, but indeed the amount of cars going in the direction of Brno is very small here.
* Take Metro C till Chodov* leaving The sign showing the metro entry turn right into road Roztylska until you reach start of the roundabout* expressway (and also 50km/h speed limit) is located 1.3km from the 2nd original location, on 5.května just before it passes over Vyskočilova, so legally it should be possible to hitch before it. At this spot there is a wide shoulder, lights, 50km/h speed limit. Take metro line C (red) to Budějovická. From exit of the roundabout is yourson Budějovická street, turn left some metres and then again turn right (northeast) on Vyskočilova. Walk northeast ≈350m until the first right into exit slip road Kloknetova* walk straight through the path in the bush (to on the left of just before the bridge), cross 5.května overpass. Cut across the street, step over the small fence, grass embankment and walk up to 5.května itself and you are in will see the gas stationexpressway sign. This spot looks good, but it needs to be tested.
The gas-==== Option 4: Motorway service station is a smaller one Újezd u Průhonic (BEST WAY TO WIENNA) ====[[File:ujezdupruhonicprague.jpg|thumb|right on |250px|Hitchhikers at Újezd u Průhonic petrol station. Exit straight out of the station and take a longleft following the winding red ramp up to street level/the road above. From the bus-distance ride you can ask drivers stop next to bring you the Replay shop, take bus X363 for 24kr (not a bus 363) to the next gasstop K Sukovu (buses leave every 15-stations as described in other options30 minutes). At this bigger gas station lots Continue on the main road where Bus went and the street will turn kind of people stop right into Formanská and then 20 mtrs ahead it splits into left and right. Stay on the right hand/main road and cross the bridge over highway and on the right is a pathway going down to refill and are the Mc Donalds + Gas Station on the higway. The best jackpot a hitch hiker can hit. , going direction Brnoover motorway bridge. <br />This is the first motorway petrol station past Prague, Vienna and České Budějovicereally Best hitchhiking spot but takes extra time to get there. Also, you have to show a valid ticket or buy one from driver for the bus trip!

If you look confused at the best, they should 50) or will three days - 310 Kč (~eur 12.60). You have to validate your ticket and nothing else. Before boarding the Metro Compartment observe for Controllers already inside. Once inside at each when entering metro station carefully observe for who all are getting in the car. If it looks like they maybe controllers, before the door shuts just get out of the metrotram or bus. <br>But rather then in cars, the controllers are near the stair. So The fine for fare dodging is 800 Kč (~eur 32) if you see them, I advise to board the metro once again and get out on the next station. Some stations have several exits and sometimes controllers are only pay it at one exit at the top of the stairs maybe. So try different exits. It's annoying and risky but doablethat place or till15 days.
Blackriding in the subway is not advised, as ticket inspectors are more common than in years past. They will ask you to show a passport, and if you refuse, they are very likely to take you to the police, who can demand immediate payment before they will let you go.
On At metro stations you can find maps of Prague with public transport, this can be useful, because the lines are changing (especially bus lines). You can easily find a connection online at IDOS - works for the entire CR or alternatively for Prague only: Idos/DPP.
