Get the street car ( its like a tramway, but down there they call it a street car?!?) (http://www.norta.com/) that goes on Canal Street ( start from the Mississippi river and goes up all the way to a cemeteries ). 1.25$ one ride or 1.50 for transfer ticket if you get another bus before that.
So hop on this street car all the way up to the stop call cemeteries ( This is the last one up far from the Mississippi river and you'll see tombs everywhere )
From there, even though tempting to get to the I-10 straight, I strongly advice you to NOT do that except if you are a girl you a crazy bas ass lucky hitchhikerlike Monsieur Rodger. There is just no room for car to stop but take a guess if you feel so.
So at this time you'll get to another bus, the jefferson transit ( http://www.jeffersontransit.org/schedules/E1Veterans-Map.htm ) , 1.5$ and prepare exact money, no change there !
