EDIT (September 2010): The gas station mentioned above was closed due to construction work; but never mind, there is a way better (and bigger) gas station just 800 or so meters back to the East (and there are no crossings along the way); we check the marker. We got a hitch to Gibraltar/Tarifa within 10min!

Take the bus #2 at ''Junta de Andalucia'' (just ask where it leaves) until the last stop. They will let you out directly on the ramp to the motorway. Like you can see on the map there is a street next to the motorway which leads you after 1.5 km to a petrol station which should be good for hitchhiking north.
Next to the football stadium, take the "av de valle inclan" , there is a good petrol station (a bit on the east of the gmap point) where you can thumb, ask and even sleep in the hill if you arrived too late...
