== Great for long distances ==Luxembourg is a great country to catch a long distance ride, due to its central location in [[Europe]]. Many drivers stop here to take advantage of the low duties on fuel, alcohol, and chocolate. Most motorways leaving Luxembourg have a large [[rest area|service area ]] which are the best places to get ongoing lifts. However, much of the traffic are drivers coming from just a few kilometers kilometres over the border in matter order to get cheaper fuel. Therefore, for a long distance ride, it may be wise to have a [[signs|sign ]] specifying your direction and destination or simply to preselect the drivers according to the immatriculation registration of their car in matter order to have a less frustrating experience.

Especially ''Aire de Capellen Sud'' is great. [[User:Guaka|guaka]] ([[User talk:Guaka|talk]]) has found direct rides to [[Avignon]], [[Valencia]] and even [[Morocco]], with waiting times of less than 1 hour. Local hitchhiking on in the countryside of Luxembourg is somewhat less straightforward as hitchhiking is not so common by local inhabitants. Public transportation (busses, trains and the [[Luxembourg City]] tram is entirely free in Luxembourg, except for first class seats on trains. The free public transport and the low chances of locals stopping for you makes it best to simply take a bus towards one of the petrol stations on the motorway when going further away out of the country. == Personal experience ==''We (a couple - man and woman) traveled for more than a week in Luxembourg, almost all by thumb. Restaurants and accommodation are expensive. The cheapest youth hostel in Luxembourg City will be EUR 20 per night.
