Hitchiking out of Ljubljana is relatively easy, in all directions, Standing on the ''Autostrada'' on-ramp.

From the main street, west of the train station (Slovenska cesta, Dunajska cesta), take buses 6, 8 or 11 in direction north. Get off at the stop "Smelt", at the "World Trade Center" tower. Walk further on towards the motorway, then right after the fountain. You will see the road forking, the left lane going down to the motorway, the right lane going higher up. Stand with your sign '''in the middle''' between the two lanes. Even though it might look a bit strange, this is the most common spot and it's easy for drivers to see you and there's enough space for one car to safely stop there.
Alternatively opposite of the railway station take bus no 27 towards "Letaliska" and get out at "Jarse". Continue following "Smartinska cesta" about 400 meters and turn to right from the traffic lights. There is a bus stop right after. Most of the cars passing now are going towards the highway. You can also take bus no 2 to "Nove Jarse" from Southern part of Slovenska cesta. The last stop is the mentioned hitchhiking spot.

Sservice area "Barje", in direction of Zagreb. This service area is on the Ring around Ljubljana and is very well-served by a lot of long-distance drivers. You The best option in a walkable distance from the city centre would be park Tivoli. It is huge so you can also go easily find a good place to the Faculty of Arts which is on Aškerčeva 2hide and set up your tent somewhere. There are computers on the left and right on the ground floor but People often drink there are more in the basement. They don't have evening so it might be a password. They also have coffee machines were good idea to sleep in or at least close to the forest, so nobody will bother you can get a coffee (kava) for eur 0.25. (Nov 2010)
There Edit: if you go to the forest behind Tivoli, be prepared for it is also steep. Go there during daylight and plan in enough time to find a McD at suitable spot. If you go until the train station bag side of the park (just before the forest starts) and in go west you'll reach a little staircase out of stone. Climb it and you'll find a calm spot to spend the city centre that as always provides Free-Wifi.night

There is "Pizza Burek" which is a speciality from there, and a local made us taste the best seller in town, located in the Prazakova Ulica near the Bavarski Dvor bus station, for eur 2.30, it not the cheapest, but it's really really good. == Public Bicycles ==
http://en.bicikelj.si/ - 1€/1week subscription for tourists. All you need is a Credit/Debit card and you can register online. Each first hour of use is free and you have to lock it again for at least 5 minutes before you can use it again. Some bikes stations are far off the center and not so far from the hitchhiking spots so it is a good alternative to get there instead of paying for the local bus. (May 2017)
