Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia, one of the smallest and nicest capitals in Europe.

Hitchhiking out
Hitchiking out of Ljubljana is relatively easy, in all directions, Standing on the Autostrada on-ramp.
Northeast towards Maribor, Austria (Graz, Vienna), Hungary
From the main street, west of the train station (Slovenska cesta, Dunajska cesta), take buses 6, 8 or 11 in direction north. Get off at the stop "Smelt", at the "World Trade Center" tower. Walk further on towards the motorway, then right after the fountain. You will see the road forking, the left lane going down to the motorway, the right lane going higher up. Stand with your sign in the middle between the two lanes. Even though it might look a bit unsafe, this is the most common spot and it's easy for a car to stop there (enough space and they see you soon enough to slow down).
Northwest towards Kranj, Bled, Villach, Salzburg (Austria), Munich (Germany)
Direction north-west there is the motorway E61/A2 towards Kranj through the Karawanken Tunnel (Slovenian: Predor Karavanke) or over the pass over the border to Villach (slov.: Beljak) in Austria and further on on the Tauern-motorway to Salzburg and over to Germany. It is the way that is used by most of those numerous Germans that go to the Croatian coast for holidays.
=== Northeast towards Maribor, Graz, Vienna (Austria), Hungary 57 === Option 1: World trade center, Recommended From the center (Slovenska Cesta, Dunajska Cesta), take a bus number 6 (direction Črnuče), 8 (dir. Brnčičeva) or 11 (dir. Ježica) and get off at the stop "Smelt", close to the WTC tower. Walk a bit further on towards the motorway and turn right at the crossroads. Right after the fountain you will see the road forking, the left lane going down to the motorway, the right lane going higher up. Stand with your sign in the middle between the two lanes, or on the pavement next to the parking place entrance. Even though the first option might look a bit strange, this is the most common spot and it's easy for drivers to see you and there's enough space for one car to safely stop there. Option 2: Letališka Take bus no 27 towards "Letaliska" and get out at "Jarše". Continue following "Šmartinska cesta" about 400 meters and turn right from the traffic lights. There is a bus stop right after. Most of the cars passing now are going towards the highway. You can also take bus no 2 to "Nove Jarše" from Southern part of Slovenska cesta. The last stop is the mentioned hitchhiking spot.  === Northwest towards Kranj, Bled, Villach, Salzburg (Austria), Munich (Germany) 61 ===  Direction north-west there is the motorway E61/A2 towards Kranj through the Karawanken Tunnel (Slovenian: Predor Karavanke) or over the pass over the border to Villach (slov.: Beljak) in Austria and further on on the Tauern-motorway to Salzburg and over to Germany. It is the way that is used by most of those numerous Germans that go to the Croatian coast for hollidays. This motorway E61/A2 starts from the Ljubljana bypass. The best way to join this motorway is from the street Celovška cesta, at the bus stop Šentvid(stand in the corner before the bus stop!!). You can get Get there easily by taking bus number 1(direction Vižmarje), 25(dir. Medvode), or 8 (dir. Gameljne) from the city centre in direction of Vižmarje. You If people who pick you up don't go as far as you like, you can hitchhike get a lift as far as the first "Petrol" gas station on the highway (17km away) or the former toll station Torovo and keep hitchhiking there. There is also a petrol station at the stopRadovljica-exit (right before Bled) which is useful for getting into Austria. Another option is to get dropped at ~25km from Šentvid, but make sure you have there's a signgreat hitchhiking spot Even better spot is gl/maps/d4kMoNHzbEYPRT9d7 here on a tunnel about 500 m ahead. In that tunnel ramp where there is an extra lane 's enough room for cars a car to stop and you can catch cars going from 3 different directions into (GPS 46.267470, 14.339623). === Southwest towards Koper, Nova Gorica, Rijeka, Pula (Croatia), (Italy) 61 === Option 1: Highway entrance Dolgi Most, Recommended  From the tunnelcity centre (Dunajska cesta, unlike Slovenska cesta) take the bus number 6, 1, 1D (direction Dolgi most - last stop) or 6B (dir. Notranje gorice), to bus stop"Dolgi Most". You will be dropped off on a large parking lot right next to a motorway bridge. There is also a Bicike(lj) (bike rental) station nearby, where if you only cover one directionprefer it to taking the bus. To get there keep walking away from On the centre and turn right at opposite side of the traffic light road, there is a busy motorway entrance with a great hitchhiking spot where the cars leave the street can easily see you and join stop safely. Slovenians use this ramp to go to the highwayseaside, so waiting times should not be too long. The signs are visible  If your destination is Venice or further, the easiest way is via Nova Gorica (town on the walkable distance from Gorizia, Ita): use sign GO and ask to be dropped at the service area on the stopborder. After For Trieste it doesn't work well with TS sign - best option might be to use Koper sign and then ask the driver to drop you turned off at Kozina exit (go right you should see in the crossroads after toll booths). It's only 3 km from the border and on the tunnelmain Rijeka-Trieste road. My favourite place  If your destination is Rijeka, take also rides going to Postojna or further west. Get out at Postojna exit and walk across the end because cars have highway from there (use the bridge). There is a lot of time good spot to see youhitchhike southwards just few hundred meters after the bridge. If people who pick you up don Option 2: Rest stop Barje - North (Sever)t  Catch bus 9 to bus stop "Pot Na Rakovo Jelšo" and go as far as straight to direction where bus went follow Cesta Dveh Cesarev street (dont turn the left side where bus went after 100 metres). Asphalt road will bring you liketo Barja rest stop woth gas station. Alot of cars and trucks are going to Italy from here, you can go off easy to get a ride west. Just ask people at former toll the gas station. There is shower in fuel station price 3 eur and places for wild camping around. Option 3: Fuel station Torovo on the road to highway Near the crossing of streets: "Pot Na Rakovo Jelšo" and keep hitchiking "Barjanska Cesta" thereis a fuel station with a lot of cars heading towards Koper=== Southeast towards Novo mesto, Zagreb (Croatia) 2 ===  Option 1: Rest stop Barje - South (Jug)
=== South or west towards Koper, Nova Gorica, Rijeka, Pula, Italy ===From the city center (Dunajska cesta, Slovenska cesta) To get there take a bus number 6 1 or 6B 1B in direction south, till the stop of "Dolgi most (last " from the center. Get off the bus on the stop "Mestni Log" and walk back in case the direction of #6)the highway. When you reach the overpass look for a very small and steep pathway on your right, which is just after big crossroads with motorway signs, before the bridge above starting next to the roadoverpass. Go back Descend down to the crossroads fence, turn right and walk a few metres untill you will see reach an unlocked door. When you're on the entry lane into other side of the motorway. There will also fence, you should already be an entry able to a parking of a small house, stand on see the rest stop. Follow the side pathway for another 100 m or so and there with your sign (you will see where everybody else standsare...)There is a shower for 3€ and places for wildcamping around.
If your destination is * MartinJ888 or further, the easiest way is via Nova GoricaAugust 2022: use sign GO and ask to be dropped at the service area on the borderWorks very well. For Trieste it doesn't work well with TS sign - best option might be The door is still unlocked! Took us about 1 hour to use KP sign and then ask the driver to drop you off at Kozina exit (go right in the crossroads after toll booths). It's only 3 km from the border and on the main Rijeka-Trieste roadget a ride, asking people.
If your destination is *JackMcJackJackAugust 2023: This gas station and has been demolished and people rarely stop here, take also rides going to Postojna or further westavoid this place. Get out at Postojna exit and The on ramp beside the Lidl on Pot Rdečega križa is a 20min walk away from there walk across the highway (use the bridge)Mestni Log bus station. There is Most people here are heading south, but we found a good spot ride to hitchike southwards just few hundred meters Šmarje - Sap gas station after the bridgean hour.
=== Southeast towards Novo mesto, Zagreb ===Hitchhiking in this direction seems to be more difficult comparing to other direction. You have two options to follow this routeOption 2:Highway entrance Barjanska cesta
1. You can also try your luck at the service area Catch bus 9 in direction of "Barje", in direction of Zagreb. This service area is on from the center or the Ring around Ljubljana train station and is very well-served by a lot of long-distance drivers. To get there take bus number 1 or 1B in direction Mestni Log from exit on the center. Go off one final stop before last, called "KoprskaBarje". Continue straight (You can hitchhike next to the bus takes a turn just before parking lot or walk down the stop "Koprskabarjanska" - don't follow it, go straight on!) on the street Cesta v Mestni log, after 2 minutes you will cross a bridge over a small river. Continue straight and cross the motorway over the bridge, and on the left side the service area is about 500 m away. There is try to find a golf course between you and the service area, which you can cross by climbing its fences (not too high) if the personal allows you, which hasn't always been the case. If they don't, you should take an immediate left directly after crossing the highway (you're still on the bridge at that point), descending to the guardrailbetter place. You are now between the golf courseThat's fence and the highway, which is quite a narrow path at some points. After a few hundred meters, you'll get to the resting area. Hitchhiker Looking for Stu discovered that bus 1 will drop you by the side of the golf course at what appeared to be the last stop before returning to town. No problem hopping the fences and crossing the course away entrance people from the busy motorway edge. 2. You can go Ljubljana would use to the on-ramp of the motorway at the edge of the city. Not many cars go in this direction, and the ones that do usually do not enter the motorway here - this on-ramp mostly serves inter-urban traffichighway going south, so you this spot might have be less suitable for long distance picks, but perfect to wait a lot of time. From the city center (Slovenska cesta, bus stop "Pošta") take bus line 3 in direction of "Rudnik" (south), and get off at the final stop. In front of you there will be the motorway entrance, which will be a turn left. Cross the street and on the side of the on-ramp road, on your left, you will see a small asphalt surface where all the cars pass, and there you can stand and hitchhike easilyto Novo Mesto.
Notice - If you are hitchhiking towards Novo mesto, pay attention that you are hitchhiking on the high-way Option 3: Highway entrance (the turn left) and not on the old road, which is continuing straight ahead. If you are hitchiking to Zagreb, pay attention to the "Crossing borders" section in the Slovenia page.Rudnik
If you really can't get a lift outNot many cars go in this direction, and the ones that do usually do not enter the train is fairly cheapmotorway here - this on-ramp mostly serves inter- €16urban traffic,00 one-way so you might have to Zagreb wait a bit longer. From the city centre take a bus line 3 in direction of "Rudnik", and lasts 2get off at the final stop.5 hoursIn front of you there will be the motorway entrance. Trains are scheduled at:#06:35 #08:15 Cross the street and on the side of the on- this train ramp road, on your left, you will see a small asphalt surface where all the cars pass, and there you can take stand and hitchhike easily. Pay attention that you as far as Belgrade're hitchhiking on the highway entrance (the left turn) and not on the old road (Dolenjska cesta), which is continuing straight ahead. Drivers going to Kočevje and Ribnica use this entrance.#14:45#18:35

It is possible to sleep in the upside part of Tivoli park which is half an hour walking from the center of the city. It's not really a flat ground but if you search well you should find nice spots, clean, safe and quiet.
The best option in a walkable distance from the city centre would be park Tivoli. It is possible huge so you can easily find a good place to hide and set up your tent somewhere. People often drink there in the evening so it might be a good idea to sleep in Metelkova mesto www.metelkova.org (Metelkova street - Masarykova street)on or at least close to the grass between Jalla Jalla club and Tiffany clubforest, so nobody will bother you.
== Internet ==Internet cafes are quite expensive Edit: if you go to the forest behind Tivoli, be prepared for it is steep. Go there during daylight and plan in Ljubljana enough time to find a suitable spot. If you go until the bag side of the park (~€4/hrjust before the forest starts). You can surf for free at KiberPipa, and go west you'll reach a cyber center located at Kersnikova 6little staircase out of stone. You can also surf for free using computer at the student info center, located next to Preseren square, on Trubarjeva ulica.
