:''I live in Kansas and have hitched through countless times. The cops will frequently try to lie to me about it being illegal to hitchhike in the entire state. I typically tell them I am goign to continue hitchhiking and I know what the law says. This has lead to me being falsely arrested only once although they let me go within 30 minutes presumably out of fear of a lawsuit. As for rides, getting them can be difficult. I have waited over 6 hours on multiple occasions. If possible avoid Kansas and go through Nebraska or Texas.'' - thewindandrain
