Public transport in Guadalajara is far below the standard of Mexico City. The bus system is old with antiquated vehicles and bus-stops don't contain any useful information and in any case are often missing completely. A ride costs 6 pesos en in general but buses outside the centre, e.g. from the bus station, may cost more. There is a metro system of sorts in Guadalajara but it is comparable to the buses. Whilst the lack of decent public transportation is a constant frustration it does mean that the locals are more used to and sympathetic towards hitch-hikers.
