(a) No person shall stand in a roadway for the purpose of soliciting a ride.
According to [http://wwwlaw.dotjustia.ga.govcom/codes/georgia/travelingingeorgia2010/bikepedestriantitle-40/Pageschapter-1/Policies.aspx 40-1-1 Georgia Department State Law as of Transportation's Key Definitions2010] , Roadway means: That portion of a highway improved, designed, or ordinarily used for vehicular travel, exclusive of the berm or shoulder. In the event a highway includes two or more separate roadways, the term 'roadway' shall refer to any such roadway separately, but not to all such roadways collectively.
Hitchhiking anywhere on the interstate is still illegal for safety reasons, although the law is seldom enforced.
