It is a member state of the European Union as well as the Schengen Agreement.
In most cases hitchhiking there is quite easy. Czech Republic is a transit country with a dense traffic on the its main roads. Along with the native local drivers you can find there many drivers (especially truck drivers) from near-by nearby countries. Local truck drivers are really friendly; young private car drivers often take two hitchhikers at a time, and many experiences show that Czechs understand hitchhiking excellently and often take hitchhikers several kms out of their route just to bring them closer to a better hitchhiking spot or their final destination. That works both for good and bad weather conditions. Older drivers usually speak only Czech, sometimes some Russian and more seldom German. Younger drivers usually have at least a basic level of English. There is an assumption that for a young couple or two girls hitchhiking might go easier.
In past many people used to hitchhike so you get a lift usually quite fast. Hitchhiking is not allowed on normal roads works very well so if possible try to avoid going by highways and motorways - see map below. When using motorways for hitchhiking please use In Czechia there is very many gas stations (service stations) where one can ask for a ride. Hitchhikers on the highway which means that there aren't protected by the driver's insurancethat many cars on any of them which can make gas station hitchhiking bit annoying. While If you wanna just pass Prague it is not suggested that one hitchhike very easy as most people on the highways or motorways, actual confrontations with police are rare. In the unlikely event that go only there and no further so instead of getting stuck on a police car stops, more likely they will explain that hitchhiking is not allowed, gas station before Prague it can be faster and less frustrating to get droped in Prague and let get to a highway on which you go wanna continue. For driving on your way--ticketing is rarea highway one needs to have a vignette. In many of these situations, the best way Most people have it but some people who don't drive often far don't have one so you can get sometimes a longer lift by those people also on small roads parallel to cope is to feign ignorance of the rules, and apologize when they say you a highway but as mentioned before most people have broken themit.
When Hitchhiking directly on motorways and expressways is not allowed; pedestrians are not permitted to walk on these roads for safety reasons. Thus hitchhiking typically involves standing on onramps or at petrol stations on the motorway. While it is not suggested that one hitchhike on regional roads make sure you highways, actual confrontations with police are at rare, and in the unlikely event that a spot that police car does stop, it is perfectly visible best to be polite and feign ignorance of the drivers - in summertime there are many over-speeding motorcycle driversrules, and they will usually not give you a fine.
Thumb up When hitchhiking on regional roads make sure you are at a spot that is the common way perfectly visible to hitchhike in Czech Republic. Thumb pointing down or waving the hand as to slow down is especially drivers - in the border areas used by the prostitutes along the road to attract their potential customerssummertime there are many speeding motorcycle drivers.
