From Amsterdam you will follow the A1 towards Amersfoort, Hengelo and Germany. Your best chance is to start at the official Liftplaats near the Amstel Station, or at the Petrol-station 50 meters further that road. 15 Kilometers further the A1 you will find a large petrol-station near Muiden (between exit 2 Muiden and 3 Muiderslot). You can ask your drivers if they will pass that spot or even go further. The second petrol-station is just before the first exit to Amersfoort (exit 12). You will find also good spots at the entries along the highway as there is often a rather large on-ramp that you can use to thumb drivers.
After <map lat='52.28034161996665' lng='6.85546875' zoom='13' view='2' float='right' /> The last petrol-station before the border is just after Hengelo, right after exit 31. It is a good spot to find rides into Germany, sometimes even all the way to Berlin. When you crossed the border near after Hengelo it changes into the A30, you will follow that road until you will hit Berlin. You follow the road through Osnabruck and Hannover. The most tricky part is the first part since there is no petrol station before Osnabruck. If your driver however goes into the direction of Bremen or Hamburg, you can stay with them though and get off at the first service-station after the infamous crossing at Osnabruck to the North(!). This service-station has a bridge, and from the other side you can often find drivers going to Hannover or all the way to Berlin.
