Severodvinsk (Russian: Северодвинск) is a city in Russia, located in Arkhangelsk Oblast slightly west of Arkhangelsk. The city is situated on the coast of the White Sea and is renowned for its shipyard, which is associated with shipbuilding and repairs. Due to this industry, there are restrictions on visiting the city for foreigners, and Russian citizens can only visit the shipyard by obtaining a special permit.

There are 35 kilometers of busy highway connecting Arkhangelsk and Severodvinsk. Hitchhiking is possible around the clock, and there are also buses and minibuses. The city center lies on the left bank of the bay, and there is the Yagry Island where apartment buildings stand directly by the White Sea. Natural sand dunes create a beach; in June-July, there can be a swimming season if there are no northern winds. Access to the port is strictly controlled and only possible with official permits, issued for serious reasons. The northeastern peninsula has a monument to sailors and wild areas for camping.
The local history museum is in the center, near the children's amusement park, but it is oddly closed on weekends. In the surroundings, there is a White Sea coastline, the mineral springs area of Kurtyaevo, and radioactive waste burials between the dacha settlements and the cemetery (according to local reports).
There is a canteen at the transport company in the eastern part of the city; food prices are similar to those in Arkhangelsk and Vologda.
By train, you can travel to Beloye Ozero, taking you through picturesque landscapes of lakes, hills, and pine forests. The settlement Beloye Ozero is calm, but the local administrator may forcibly make you leave, claiming it is a border zone.

Hitchhiking out
East towards Arkhangelsk
Option 1 - Onezhskaya junction (Arkhangelsk highway and Ring Road intersection)
Take buses 133 or 138 from the station, or bus 150 from Yagry Island. The stop right after the junction is called "TEC-2". Walking a little further, you will see the stela "Severodvinsk" with a convenient parking bay for cars to pull over.
West towards Onega
Option 1 - Solzenskoye Highway
From the city, head out via the Solzenskoye Highway, which starts at Prospekt Pobedy and crosses the Kudma river by bridge. Nearby, on Kirilkina Street, is the "ATS" bus stop for buses 17 and 22. Bus 101 will take you far out of the city to the turnoff for Kudma, or four more stops to the Onezhsk tract.
Option 2 - Korodskoye Highway via bus 104
Bus 104 from the center via Korodskoye Highway to the Onezhsk tract, making several stops near numerous dacha areas. Bus 13 also goes to Korodskoye Highway but does not reach the Onezhsk tract.
