Korolyov (Russian: Королёв) is a large city (the third largest) in Moscow Oblast, Russia.

  • Located 7 km northeast from the Moscow Ring Road (MKAD) along the Yaroslavskoye Highway (M8).
  • Until 1996, it was called Kaliningrad, which caused confusion with the Baltic city of the same name.
  • The city is known as the "space capital" of Russia and hosts the RKK Energia and TsNIIMASH enterprises.
  • Korolyov is divided by the Moscow-Fryazyevo railway line into two uneven parts, connected by the Bolshevo overpass. The city includes the Bolshevo and Podlipki-Dachnye railway stations, as well as Valentinovka and Fabrika 1 Maya platforms.
  • Together with the cities of Mytishchi and Pushkino, Korolyov can pose a problem for hitchhikers leaving Moscow towards Yaroslavl. To avoid hitchhiking in the heavy local traffic, it is recommended to take an electric train through this large agglomeration. For more details, see the article on leaving Moscow.
