Birobidzhan (Russian: Биробиджан) is the capital of the Jewish Autonomous Oblast in Russia. It is one of the smallest regional centers (74,000 inhabitants), located in Eastern Siberia between Blagoveshchensk and Khabarovsk. The Trans-Siberian Railway and the federal highway R297 "Amur" pass through the city. There is a bypass road around the city to the northeast, so transit hitchhikers do not need to enter the city.

Hitchhiking out

Southeast towards Khabarovsk via R297

Option 1 - Ikura Settlement / Ikura Station

Exit the city towards the bypass near the settlement and station Ikura. Bus 106 runs here.

West towards Blagoveshchensk via R297

Option 1 - Kirga Station / Village

Take bus 131 from the city (starting from "Ptichnik" via Sovetskaya street, not passing the bus station) to the station and village of Kirga, up to the railway crossing. Then walk about 5 minutes to the bypass road. At the fork, you can go left and stand after the gas station or right to the truck parking. The bus runs approximately every hour and a half starting from 6:30.
