Bataysk (Russian: Батайск) is a satellite city of Rostov-on-Don. Hitchhikers often pass through the city when traveling by train from the south of Russia—keep in mind not all trains stop at Rostov-Glavny station. Sometimes it is necessary to get off in Bataysk and then continue to the M4 highway. This description is for those cases.

Hitchhiking out

East on A135

  • Walk east for about 2 km via the pedestrian overpass above the railway. First along Molokova Street through a private housing area, then through an apartment block neighborhood. You can hitch at the triangle near the entrance to 65G Vorovskogo Street.
  • Take bus 6A to Leningradskaya Street, then walk to the highway near the "Yuzhny" water park. You can hitch either at the entrance to the hotel "Zhemchuzhnaya" or near the truck parking a bit further south.

Towards Voronezh and Krasnodar on M4

  • "Salskoye Koltso" junction. There's a police post, but the main road goes on the overpass. You have to hitch at the merging lane. From Bataysk station, take buses 5 or 2 to "Neftebaza", then walk south past the "Svetofor" supermarket and across the junction.
  • Junction with Samarskoye highway. Bus 8 will take you halfway to the "Tekhnikum" stop, from there either hitch or walk to the junction. South of the M4 junction there are many 24-hour cafes, truck stops, a parts market, etc., where you can ask drivers for rides.
  • Bus 5 from the station goes to Zalesye seven times a day. After a few kilometers, it turns off the highway. There is no official stop at the turn to Koisugsky, but you can ask the driver to drop you there and walk back to the road. After 600 meters you'll find a cluster of cafes and gas stations with lights, good for hitchhiking either north or south.
