Vyborg (Russian: Выборг, Finnish: Viipuri, Swedish: Wiborg) is a city in Russia, located in Leningrad Oblast, 120 kilometers from Saint Petersburg. The border with Finland is 27 km away by rail (Buslovskaya station) and 35 km by road to the nearest international checkpoint "Brusnichnoe". Vyborg lies on the shore of Vyborg Bay, in the northeastern part of the Gulf of Finland. It is a major economic, industrial, and cultural center of Leningrad Oblast, a Baltic port, and an important road and railway junction. Vyborg is traditionally considered the most popular city for a day hitchhiking trip from Saint Petersburg.

Option 1 - Via Cherkasovo
At the bus station you can board a bus to the village of Cherkasovo and get off on the M10 highway. There are many good spots on the highway—the shoulder is wide.

If you reach the first border checkpoint and your driver does not go further into Finland, it’s better to get out before the checkpoint and stand on the road 100 meters from it. You may also talk to the border guards to possibly increase your hitchhiking chances.
