You can basically try it a lot closer to the city than the hitchiking spots [[User:fabzgy|fabzgy]] mentioned. The Panamerican Highway passes right through the city. For long distance trips [[User:fabzgy|fabzgy]] recommends the spots on the map because there most of the [[Valle Central]] traffic is filtered out.

If you want to go in direction [[San Isidrio]] or [[Panama]] take a bus from '''San José''' to ''Cartago'' (300 C) and ask the bus driver to drop you off at the peage station.

===North towards [[Puntarenas]], [[Liberia (Costa Rica)|Liberia]], [[Nicaragua]]===

For the direction [[Puntarenas]], [[Liberia (Costa Rica)|Liberia]] or [[Nicaragua]] take a bus to ''Alajuella'' and drop of at the peage station or at the airport. Should be allright to hitchhike out from there.

Go to the Terminal Caribe, from there 100 meters north, the next to the right and after 120 m you arrive at the spot.
