The Siret-Porubnoe border crossing joins Romania at the town of Siret (near Suceava) and Ukraine at the village of Porubnoe (near Chernivtsi).
If coming from Ukraine, say you have no cigarettes (these being common contraband at this crossing). Walking across this border is now permitted. HHsardo did so in September 2015 and found a dozen locals crossing the border the same way.
Sleeping
Entering Romania from Ukraine, there is a large field half a kilometre from the border crossing and just past a petrol station. Camping here is quite easy, and in the morning you can wash up at the petrol station. Cars are going by quickly here, so if you want to hitchhike further towards Suceava, it is better to walk back up to the border and thumb where drivers are going slow.
