The intersection for hitchhiking === East towards [[Pieksämäki]], [[Varkaus]], North-east or south is located towards [[Kuopio]], [[Kajaani]], South-east of the city in the suburb towards [[Mikkeli]], [[Lappeeranta]] of Vaajakoski. Take bus number 3 from Matkakeskus in the city center until the Vaajakoski ABC petrol station (the bus ticket will be around 2€). At the petrol station you can ask drivers or (much faster) thumb directly on the road. If Take bus number 1, 2 or 3 to Vaajakoski. From Vaajakoski you are going south, need to walk along Vaajakoskentie (road E75) for roughly 2km - there's not so much space for is a car to pull overpavement! Don't accept be able to see you from a lift only to Levonmäkilong distance, as it's not easy to hitch further from thereplus they will be slowing down for a roundabout/traffic circle.

EDIT, March 2015:Busticket: Also by this roundabout/traffic circle is now 3,30€Bus 3 doesn't go to the a large ABC gas and service station anymorewhere you can also ask for rides. It is open 24 hours and also has a small supermarket. There're not much busses  If you are going thereto take E63 towards Kuopio or Mikkeli, another good option is to get a bus direction to Hankasalmi (I took bus 43) and get off at [https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=17/62.23651/25. in my case96574 the bus stop near Leppälahti village]. sunday morning no one went From there.so cars go by bus noa bit fast but they have enough time to see you and enough space to stop. 1 A lot of traffic going in the right direction Haapaniemi. Appr. 15min after main bus station you will notice I got a big roundabout (ride going to right highway Kuopio in 5 min, but if you are going direction to back Jyväskylä city centerMikkeli (as I was), straight you can just ask the driver to Kuopio drop you off [https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=17/62.24818/ Lahti26. The bus will go straight 17365 at the crossroad to Mikkeli and will leave hitchhike from the street bus stop there] (another just 5 min wait).
