If you find your way to the start of SH1 there There is a very good spot on SH1 just after the intersection with Howell McKracken Ave. You can wait Wait on Cambridge Rd on the other side of the road from Howell Avethe Mobil petrol station. The road goes from two to one lane, there is a bus stop where cars can pull in and you easily get a lift towards TaurangaSouth. Don't accept rides to Tamahere.
Hamilton is a town on the North Island of New Zealand. It's a really tough place to hitch from - semi suburban road for about 5km from one side of town to the other. Dunstan walked the full length with a big pack! The highway runs the west side of the town, it is easier to get a ride from there then it is from in the town itself.
Removed pointless advice ("take a bus to AKL airport for $20" - really? This is Hitchwiki...). Huntly advice for going North not hat great either. Adding some options without leaving town that need verification

To get to that spot you should use Cambridge Road. If you go from the center of the city, don't try to go Grey Street and then along the SH1, there's no access for pedestrians on part of that way.
