It could be useful to take the article advice written on the [[Canada]] page about '''Winter Hitch-hiking''' hazard and maybe some other countries are having some too. They could be grouped together on this same page for all Winter Hazardous country or regions: [[Russia]], [[Scandinavia]], [[Iceland]], [[Canada]], [[Alaska]] ... - Hej! I thought the main page should just be an overview with the countries and without cities. Did I get it wrong? - deleea
:Hi! :) Well== Bug?? ==When linking from other sites or typing on the address bar, it might be good I often get sent to have some cities in there as well. To give an idea to people and to persuade people to add something about cities we dona ''double''t have yet! Although I want to get rid of the red links in page with a couple of monthscapital letter, which looks like the following: http://hitchwiki.org/en/Http://hitchwiki.org/index. Oh, and you can sign using <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>phpAnyone has an idea why? It seems to always do that if we link hitchwiki city page on the CS wiki travel page. - Hello:It's because of the intricacies of <tt>. Before discovering this place for discussion I already filled some boxes eg about Virgin hh, Poland and the Netherlandshtaccess</tt>. On one hand this The CS wiki is a good idea, because it has some (very small) potential linking to become an interesting source of information. However, I am not expecting this at alle. Which does not need to mean anythingg. Any new business usually takes some time - up to three or five years - to make a little bit more than it costs, and so it might be with this initiativehttp://www. As for what I've read it's some kind of starthitchwiki. However, I have doubts about the general neutrality of the content for noworg/Paris. For example - :So I read that a country can be skipped if an attempt to hitchhike there does not succeed. What a bullshit! This may be reasonable for random long distance travellers, however many people who hitchhike do so for very different reasonschecked [http://davidwalsh. For example because they don't have money, because there is name/no public transport and so on. Hitchhiking in the Netherlands "is possible". "It's possible" for some, for others it is easy, not just possible. So, my comment is a very positive one - I hope www-using-htaccess- which tries to say. What is the neutral point of view? Ah, I see that the hitchhikers point of view is wanted. If so, what is a hitchhiker, file some stuff] and what is the hitchhikers point of view? If a non-hitchhiker wanted to hitchhike out of town, what would be his or her point of view? Thathopefully it's allworking fine now. It's an ambitious project Let me know if you're thinking ofencounter any weird redirect errors. All the best with it. Regards Frank Verhart. Note - please don't copy information [[User:Guaka|guaka]] 18:40, 30 May 2009 (textUTC) from my website. It is copyrighted material that I do not offer for publication elsewhere. PS - I don't like the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
:Hi! Just finished HGttG today :) So I just wanted to write Don't panic! but then I saw you don't like it.
:I'm glad to read your critique and I'll try to do something useful with it!
:One thing though: this is not a business! The AdSense money goes to Wikicities, to which I'm not affiliated. Also, I'm not really the founder: I adopted, or saved thia wiki from a ''spam death''.

- Hey Hitchhikers! Just joined the new hitchhiking wiki here-- whew! there have been a few moves in these last 2 years, hope we are all able to make this a permanent stay here on hitchwiki.org.==Logo update==I contributed to hitchhikingguide.org and hitchhiking.wikia.com but do not feel the need to mark which contributions belong to me within this new wiki. As you will see from my user page, I am creator/webmaster/co-editor of digihitch.com. Some of the information I personally collected for digihitch I will also share here, and as with all hitchhikers I have a ton of info that has not yet been written. As I hitchhike primarily in the USA, I will have most to contribute to that section. (Don:''t believe the misinformation found on the web... there are still tens of thousands of hitchhikers in the USA).I -and the digihitch community- would really appreciate it if you cite digihitch.com for all information you collect from there. The website is community-run and has been the hard work of many world hitchhikers for over 5 years. Support our community when possible and all hitchhikers will benefit! I must admit that I was opposed moved to a hitchhiking wiki when Teppo first suggested it to me in April 2005. We at digihitch.com had just launched our [http[project://www.digihitch.com/world/ digihitch WorldLogo update]] section and I believed that all information would be best shared there among registered members (without all the spam maintenance required of a wiki), but since that time I understand the value of a wiki such as this and will attempt to share unbiased contributions where possible.Revel and Roll, [[User:Salman|Morgan 'Salman']] 21:38 01 December 2006 (UTC)
=== Writing style =Mainpage ==I just took the old news out of the mainpage news template. Now there is quite some free space. However, I think it is good to keep the mainpage simple and not too overloaded (and also keep in future just the last 10 site news entries). Any suggestions about what could be added there or how the page could be reordered? I would suggest to move the picture of the now to the left column and also put there a field with the most important content with a symbol (e.g. general info Top Tips, Where, Safety, Signs, First time, Picking up hitchhikers, country info). Maybe one of the design and graphic program gifted people could make some icons for this... It might also be worth to think about which content is important for new people (e.g. move the site news - what is normally for the more frequent users - to the right bottom side... --[[User:Alex|Alex]] 19:28, 23 July 2008 (CEST)
:: I was feeling that it would be more interesting and correct also suggest to split fix the 'factual information' of the edit'personnal experience', be buttons in the top box. Looks quite annoying and I guess that the factual information about a hitching spot comes first while the personnal ones would come in a this box anyway doesn't need much editing, so maybe we should set it to ''different paragraph which follows'admin edit only''. It would give a more professionnal look to the cities or country pages instead of having to read the subjective point of view of one person everytimeNews, which is interestingpics, but the factual reading is usually providing a straight to the point information that is often quickly neededevents etc. Having a little code about how to make it would enhance then can still be edited through the whole project. Because is it templates, of any interest to know that someone met someone else when he was in town or that it was rainy ..course. It would be great if doesn't make much sense since these boxes are not much edited in the information given is most of the time somehow verified instead of being disclaimed. As on many pagesfirst place and as you say, the statement: ''Free use of Internet in every Library'' might not other boxes can still be accurate and is quite expressed in a 'powerful' way that does not leave much contrary edited by anyone through the templates --[[User:MaplefantaRobino|MaplefantaRobino]] 0112:4845, 5 December 2007 18 August 2008 (CETCEST)
== Overview ==- For me, it always takes : wanted to long propose to find a specific country on rearrange the mainpage boxes, one for wiki-news, one for general news, one for events, one for stories (especially in europeupcoming), because countries, continent-parts and cities are mixedone for 3 (through rss) most recent (planet) blogs. I would suggest removing at least think the cities and maybe also the continent-parts general news should be on top (I think it's more likely that people are looking for a specific countryleft), then events, then stories. Does anyone agree with me? :On the right (help and then wiki-news) or something similar --[[User:MrTweekRobino|MrTweekRobino]] 1512:4145, 3 December 2006 18 August 2008 (CETCEST)

== Errors Can we set some standards for place names? An example, what to use for Brugge (I just bumped into it)? It's now to be found under [[Bruges]], which I think is wrong. Cities should be put under the name they are known in the country they are and if necessary there can be a redirection page for foreign-language versions of the name.:I think we already had that need discussion a long time ago, and agreed to use the English names, wherever they are common. This seemed most logical for an English-speaking wiki. In general, we try to stick to wikipedia's standards for that. I think it's not so much of an issue, because we always try to set redirects for all possible languages, so everyone will always find what one's looking for. (Although we are not really consequent, like at [[Köln]]). Also I would find it cool to have pictures block out all text in on the left column making it all drop down below screen without scrolling and also have the picturelinks to different hitchhikers available. Another thing I noticed is that even though the columns are all 33%, the left column is smaller than the middle column because of margins. I'm sure they can :)) And maybe we should also put the images more on top, randomroads and hitchgathering -links to make the page more colorful, more inviting --[[User:MrTweek|MrTweek]]<small>[http://http://wwwmain menu.liftershalte.info/ site], [[user talk:MrTweek|wikitalk]]</small> 14:27, 10 October 2007 (CEST)
Yep, good idea. I'm asking myself if the list of hitchhikers is ''that'' useful? Maybe we should have the General Info about First time, etc. there, but remove some stuff you'll find yourself if you're going deeper into the hitchhiking stuff (like Boats, Planes, Trains)... So for that the news can be more visible (to see that there's activity...) etc. Also the list of countries That square light box is a bit annoying, we can add some more new countries (thanks to [[User:worldhitch]] ;) ) like Brunei etc. For that the list is getting bigger and bigger, and someday it will be impossible to list all 192+ states of the world there :) Maybe we can track the list more down. What about the pictures. hm... no idea, but currently it's not the best solution. About the new header, it's using 1/3 of my screen, it's definitely too big! :) (Remember, not everyone has a 17" Wide-screen Monitor). And, can someone delete the list ''Based on work by'' at the main page? It's blowing up my screen. In some browsers it's fixed I guess, but not for Safari and Firefox :( Hm...something else? :) Want more people in the chat ! Height is around 400 pixels (or less) to keep the PNGs from adding dithered colors. Resulting PNGs were optimized with [http://advsys.net/ken/utils.htm#pngout PNGOUT]  So far I've done all flags for the countries I have visited. However, you must be aware that older browsers do not support .SVG files and I'm not sure if one of the newer (aka the piece of junk from M$) ones does. Also, if I try to upload '''Flag_of_the_Netherlands.svg''' I get the following message: "# A file with this name exists already, please check File:Flag of the Netherlands.svg if you are popping in not sure if you want to change it." Clicking on the pages link will go to a page that tells me "This file is from a shared repository and may be used by other projects. The description on its file description page there is shown below" And it doesn't show up in [http://hitchwiki.org/en/Special:ListFiles?limit=50&ilsearch=Netherlands&title=Special%3AListFiles Special:ListFiles], so how does the link to [http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_of_the_Netherlands.svg Wikimedia Commons] work? They look completely the same for me. --[[User:MrTweek|MrTweek]] 14:15, 23 August 2010 (UTC)::The PNGs I uploaded are exactly the same, but PNGOUT is capable of compressing them significantly better in many cases, which should save some bandwidth... First of all: Hitchwiki is linked to wikimedia commons. That means, you can just use any file uploaded to wikimedia commons here. And that is greatalso the reason for your error message: If you upload a file, that is also uploaded to wikimedia commons, you would replace it locally. This is fine, you can do that. It doesn't make much sense to upload the same file again, though.: It doesn't really matter wether a browser supports svg. The wiki renders them to png pr jpg anyway. But it can render them in a much better quality, no matter which size they will have. So, in general, SVG is always better than PNG or JPG, but not always possible.: I think bandwith is not so much of an issue nowadays. All modern browsers support on-the-fly-compression anyway, so it will probably not make any difference at all. --[[User:MrTweek|MrTweek]] 21:18, 23 August 2010 (UTC) == Navigation == On the right side sucks, BIG time...  And while I'm writing this, the table with foreign characters shows as a series of "charinsert" tags, possibly because it enhance and summarise 's missing a final '}' [[User:Prino|Prino]] ([[User talk:Prino|talk]]) 20:52, 1 October 2012 (CEST):And the colour of the links, a horrible blue also stinks.
