Any suggestions about what could be added there or how the page could be reordered? I would suggest to move the picture of the now to the left column and also put there a field with the most important content with a symbol (e.g. general info Top Tips, Where, Safety, Signs, First time, Picking up hitchhikers, country info). An example, what to use for Brugge (I just bumped into it)? It's now to be found under CC by[[Bruges]], which I think is wrong. Cities should be put under the name they are known in the country they are and if necessary there can be a redirection page for foreign-language versions of the name.:I think we already had that discussion a long time ago, and agreed to use the English names, wherever they are common. This seemed most logical for an English-saspeaking wiki. In general, we try to stick to wikipedia's standards for that. I think it's not GFDLso much of an issue, because we always try to set redirects for all possible languages, so everyone will always find what one's looking for. == Economic crisis & hitchhiking ==
Hej! I thought Just wondering about the desirability to work out the economic aspect of hitchhiking. Wechner indicated finance as one the four main page should just motivations for hitchhiking, the other one being adventure, environment and social sharing [http://bernd.wechner.info/Hitchhiking/Suite101/Article/?03]. The incentive to this question at the moment is mainly the current economic crisis that is in execution among banks, governments, public and business that in all likeliness will last for many many years to come, mostly in Northern America and Europe. Following the recent news there seems to be already some reason to be an overview with concerned (which applies mostly to people who are in debt). In other words - would economic recession / depression increase again the countries number of hitchhikers, which in the US and without citiesEurope basicly ''used to be'' in decline since the 1980s. Did I get it wrongWill hitchhiking in the US and EU increase and popularize due to increasing poverty in the coming ten to twenty years? Such macro economic developments are fascinating. -- deleea[[User:Fverhart|Fverhart]] 15:49, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Hello. Before discovering this place for discussion I already filled some boxes eg about Virgin hh, Poland and the Netherlands. On one hand this wiki == Frontpage is evolving ==Good! Frontpage is a good idea, because it has some (very small) potential to become an interesting source of information. However, I am not expecting this going trough changes at all. Which does not need to mean anything. Any new business usually takes some time - up to three or five years - to make a little bit more than it costs, and so it might be with this initiative. As for what I've read it's some kind of start. However, I have doubts about the general neutrality very begining of the content for now2009. For example :- I read that a country can be skipped if an attempt to hitchhike there does not succeed. What a bullshit! This may be reasonable for random long distance travellers, however many people who hitchhike do so for very different reasons. For example because they don't have money, because there is no public transport and so on. Hitchhiking in the Netherlands ) Should "is possibleBasics". and "It's possiblePlaces" for somebe more bigger and first in line, for others it is easy, not just possible. So, my comment is a very positive one when reader starts from top- I hope left - which tries to say. What is the neutral point of viewcorner? Ah, I see that the hitchhikers point of view is wantedcan try to visualize my idea when i have more time. If so, what is a hitchhiker, and what is the hitchhikers point of view? If a non-hitchhiker wanted Icons are great spice to hitchhike out of townbring some colours, what would maybe they should be his or her point of viewbigger? That's all. It's an ambitious project you're thinking of. All the best with it. Regards Frank Verhart. Note - please don't copy information [[User:Mikael|Mikael]] 21:19, 7 January 2009 (textUTC) from my website. Hey Hitchhikers! Just joined the new hitchhiking wiki here-- whew! there have been a few moves in ::Actually i came out with [[User:Mikael/Main_Page_09_a|these last 2 years, hope we are all able to make this a permanent stay here on hitchwikirather big changes]].org.I contributed to hitchhikingguide.org and hitchhiking.wikia.com but do not feel the need to mark which contributions belong to me within this new wiki. As you will see from my user page, I am creator/webmaster/co:-editor of digihitch.com. Some of the information ) Comments? I personally collected for digihitch I will also share here, and as didn't test it with all hitchhikers I have a ton of info that has not IE's yet been written. As I hitchhike primarily in the USA, I will have most to contribute to that section. (Doni't believe the misinformation found on the web... there are still tens of thousands of hitchhikers in the USAm working with OSX).I -and the digihitch community- would Design is really appreciate it if you cite digihitch.com for all information you collect from there. The website is community-run and has been close to the hard work of many world hitchhikers for over 5 years. Support our community when possible and all hitchhikers will benefit! I must admit that I was opposed to a hitchhiking wiki when Teppo first suggested it to me in April 2005. We at digihitch.com had just launched our [http://wwwfi.digihitchwikipedia.comorg/worldwiki/ digihitch WorldWikipedia:Etusivu fi.wikipedia -frontpage] section and I believed that all information would be best shared there among registered members . -[[User:Mikael|Mikael]] 01:07, 11 January 2009 (without all the spam maintenance required of a wikiUTC):::Yeah man, but since that time I understand the value of a wiki such as this and will attempt to share unbiased contributions where possiblelove it :) I can test it in IE tomorrow.Revel and Roll, --[[User:SalmanMrTweek|Morgan 'Salman'MrTweek]] 2115:38 01 December 2006 20, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
== Possibility ==: About compatibility: With Firefox 3.0.3 it looks great, with IE7 the fonts look weird, also the top ''Hitchwiki'' text is somehow cut below, so only 3/4 of the text is visible. All other boxes are okay, though. Will test with Safari Browser later. --[[User:Platschi|Platschi]] 16:56, 19 January 2009 (UTC):: Here it works perfect in Safari. Once we get more states into ::Hi! Great to see it in action. :-) I tested it in Safari 3.21 under OSX - works great. I also tweaked a inline CSS of the United States, do you want to divide H1-element ("Hitchwiki"-title). Sorry::: I added "min-width" -attribute to the left column. I hit edit instead wouldn't add list of add commenthitchhikers visible by default, whoops but how about show/hide -stylish box? Maybe under "Also on Hitchwiki". -[[User:Mikael|Mikael]] 17:23, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Anyway:::: 'I wouldn't add list of hitchhikers visible by default' - Why not? Because there are not all contributers? Not a big thing in my opinion,not everybody wants to be linked there and it could be named accordingly. I can't think of any other reasons... but I am curious to get to know some more views on this. My point is that it gives a more personal touch to the technical wiki, it is about real people (as somebody also stated in why he works for Hitchwiki). Arguments around this more personal touch of Hitchwiki are welcomed too. --[[User:Alex|Alex]] 04:23, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Cheers::::: I [[User:Mikael/Main_Page_09_a|tested]] to float gallery to the right, but it's not working with smaller (under 1200px width) resolutions. :-/ With 24" It's looking great. :-D -[[User:Mikael|Mikael]] 17:35, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Paul ::On Win ME (djdirect from CSyes, ppl still seem to use it) with Firefox 2.0 and 1024x768 Screen the two boxes (Places/Basics) are pretty narrow. Changing min-width doesn't help. :Thanks I did some editing for your contributions! the CSS and tested it with IE 5.5-7 under Windows XP. These worked as well:When you log in you can "move" pages to another titlesafari 3 (win/mac), firefox 3 (win/mac), opera 9. That way there will also be a redirect6 (win/mac). Now both [[Kyiv]] With IE6 and [[Kiev]] point under png-transparengy doesn't work (''needs JS-hack or background-color added to the same article.:Something wrong with HHGTG? Nah. Or do you mean Hitchhikerimages''s Guide to Hitchhiking. Well), I think the title is a bit long. But maybe first box doesn't have top-margin and it's goodcontents had too big line-height. These are not minor problems. I'd be willing to use any namealso took 4rd PotM-image away, if there are enough folks who want that nameso page should now scale better with small screens (like tiny 9" computers). :) -[[User:GuakaMikael|GuakaMikael]] 2017:1217, 11 October 2006 26 January 2009 (UTC)

== Reorganization ==:@[[User:Grégoire|Grégoire]] it's on my todo list --[[User:Xo|xo]] 02:31, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
I tried organize the photos and whatnot to look a little better, but I can't really make it look good. Someone with an aesthetic eye needs to handle it. Maybe it's just because of my resolution (1024) but the pictures block out all text in the left column making it all drop down below the picture. This leaves a huge whitespace gap to the left of the pictures and doesn't look very nice. Another thing I noticed is that even though the columns are all 33%, the left column is smaller than the middle column because of margins. If we could even that up it might fix the above problem with the pictures.==search-field==
I bolded don't know if somebody already suggested it, but is it possible to move the search-field more up!? I think it's the most used field on the text of Canadamain page and should be directly under the hitchwiki-picture. Especially for smaller monitors, Mexicoeg netbooks, US and Greenland you have to make N America a little easier scroll down to navigate. By the way, Europe lookes very nice now. reach it ;-) --[[User:Zac Stewartjeensg|Zacjeensg]]<small>[[User talk13:Zac Stewart|talk]]</small> 04:4553, 13 December 2006 9 February 2010 (CETUTC)

It doesn't make much sense to upload the same file again, though.: It doesn't really matter wether a browser supports svg. The wiki renders them to png pr jpg anyway. But it can render them in a much better quality, no matter which size they will have. [[User:Prino|Prino]] ([[User talk:Prino|talk]]) 11:56, 2 October 2012 (CEST) :I like Mikael's new design but the old Monobook one is useful indeed. So go to [[Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rendering]] and choose MonoBook. That's what I just did, there are still some tidbits not working but I'll fix them in [[MediaWiki:Monobook.css]]. :Charinsert is broken because the extension doesn't work anymore with MediaWiki 1.19. Will try to fix that as well today. [[User:Guaka|guaka]] ([[User talk:Guaka|talk]]) 12:05, 2 October 2012 (CEST) == Bug == Hey guys - having trouble adding places? It gives an error message and then you can't add anything Anyone else experiencing this problem? 15th November 2016. All templates are out of order, because they have a "<nowiki>{{ #</nowiki>" at their beginning in the whole wiki. -[[User:GeorgDerReisende|GeorgDerReisende]] ([[User talk:GeorgDerReisende|talk]]) 09:51, 4 October 2012 (CEST): Thanks for noting. We know about this bug, but as far as I know, it only affect the Isin-Template? A quick Check on [[Germany]] which has a lot of templates shows me that most of them work fine. Please let us know if you know of any specific template that is broken as well --[[User:MrTweek|MrTweek]] ([[User talk:MrTweek|talk]]) 09:58, 4 October 2012 (CEST): many templates which I use for the motorways are broken: {{ramp}} {{junction}} {{gas}} {{rest}} {{very good}} {{good}}, look at {{Ade|1}} --[[User:GeorgDerReisende|GeorgDerReisende]] ([[User talk:GeorgDerReisende|talk]]) 14:44, 8 October 2012 (CEST) * I don't know about the templates (except IsIn) but the all the links to Trashwiki aren't in the toolbow anymore, but at the end of the page... I speak about the french version (exemple: [http://hitchwiki.org/fr/Prague], at the end of the page). For the english version, they just disappeared... Even if they are still in the editing page. --[[User:Klodreamer|Klodreamer]] ([[User talk:Klodreamer|talk]]) 18:34, 9 October 2012 (CEST) * It seems to me, that for all pictures, which have been uploaded before October, the original files have been gone. That lead to the above problem, that my templates don't run any more. --[[User:GeorgDerReisende|GeorgDerReisende]] ([[User talk:GeorgDerReisende|talk]]) 17:55, 15 October 2012 (CEST): I just re-imported them, so most images should work again. Please let me know, if there are still a lot missing. If there are only a few missing, we can just upload them again manually. --[[User:MrTweek|MrTweek]]([[User_talk:MrTweek|talk]]) 04:32, 28 October 2012 (CET)* I'm already missing some symbols: {{rest}} {{average}} {{bad}} {{senseless}}, the logo don't show up, in the German wiki also the template ''gut'' has no picture. --[[User:GeorgDerReisende|GeorgDerReisende]] ([[User talk:GeorgDerReisende|talk]]) 16:06, 3 November 2012 (CET) == new bug == In the German part of this wiki actually I can't make edits, I always gets the answer: "Es ist ein Datenbankabfragefehler aufgetreten. Dies könnte auf einen Fehler in der Software hindeuten." --[[User:GeorgDerReisende|GeorgDerReisende]] ([[User talk:GeorgDerReisende|talk]]) 09:12, 27 July 2014 (UTC) == Trustroots advertisement ==
I was wondering if we could somehow improve In my opinion the information on this site by adding content regarding routes, advertisement for Trustroots does not only places. For example, if someone travels from Paris need to Berlinbe here for years, he/she mainly because Hitchwiki could (should write !) behave like a page about this routeproper commercial free, mentioning independent wiki, without its own agenda. The advertisement can repel potential users from Hitchwiki. Online hospex is not the best places to HH, shops with best prices, hostels etcsame as hitch-hiking either and certainly not all hitch-hikers are interested in such service. --[[User:Fverhart|Fverhart]] ([[Usertalk:TruckThorFverhart|TruckThortalk]] 12) 23:10AM 23APR2007 EEST13, 21 July 2016 (GMT+2CEST)
