New Orleans is the largest city in the state of LousianaLouisiana's in the United States. You can abbreviate it as "NOLA" on your sign; getting in is usually easy while getting out can be trickier.
General facts about the city :'New Orleans is of course amazing. The French Quarter is full of hobo kids as well as drunken vomiting tourist frat boys. A friendly place. Don't let the bullshit about ("ever since Katrina it's been very dangerous ") scare you-- yeah , there are gang war neighborhoods, but if you just hitchhike in you can hang out in the French quarter and be fine. Seriously, even Even if you are in a gang neighborhood , people usually leave travelers travellers alone- - if you have a bag/backpack and a cardboard sign- you're basically homeless- you , don't belong anywhere/you belong anywhere. Don't worry about bad neighborhoods-- you're basically a bum!
Loads of free food serves in New Orleans if you're into that sort of thing, the Hare Krishna dinner is even better than Hare Krishna dinner usually is and they basically leave you alone religiously unless you're actually interested.== Hitchhiking out ==
Oh and even if you look like you're 12 years old you probably won't be carded at all and you can drink in any bar you want. If one place cards you just go to the next place=== West toward Baton-Rouge, you can definitely get drunk in New Orleans no matter who you are if you have money. New Orleans loves a drunk person and drunk people love New Orleans. Lafayette, Houston, TX ===
And it's not about Mardi Gras anywaysGet the streetcar (tram) that goes on Canal Street (which runs from the Mississippi river and all the way to a cemetery). It costs $1. That's kinda 25 for tourists and kinda too muchone ride or $1. New Orleans is 50 for a constant party whenever transfer ticket if you goget another bus before it. People get off Take it until the boat or oil rig theylast stop (Cemeteriesre working on, come to New Orleans, blow all their moneyfar from the river, and by the time they're done spending their money theyyou're ready to go back to work on the boatll see tombs everywhere).
ItFrom there, even though it's recommended tempting to go get straight to the I-10, walk up to The Abbey bar City Park Ave, turn right on it and then take a left on Decatur streetCanal Blvd. Ask for You'll see a small loop with 2 bus stops on it everyone will know where it is(don't walk too far, take the 1st loop). Just a really good dark and comfortable barHere, take another bus, the E1 route of the Jefferson Transit. It costs $1.50 for which you should have exact change because the driver does not provide any. The E1 route is often seems to be full of hoboscalled the Veterans' bus since it goes far on Veterans' Blvd.
You need to get off before the I-10 on Veterans'Blvd. It's about a 15-25 minute ride. DON'BUS :T GET OFF AT THE FIRST UNDERPASS, THAT IS THE CAUSEWAY. Get the street car ( its like a tramway=== East towards Mobile, but down there they call it a street car?!?) (http://www.norta.com/) that goes on Canal Street ( start from the Mississippi river and goes up all the way to a cemeteries ). 1.25$ one ride or 1.50 for transfer ticket if you get another bus before that.So hop on this street car all the way up to the stop call cemeteries ( This is the last one up far from the AL; North towards Hattiesburg, [[Mississippi river and you'll see tombs everywhere )From there, even though tempting to get to the I-10 straight, I strongly advice you to NOT do that except if you are a girl you a crazy bas ass lucky hitchhiker like Monsieur Rodger. There are loads of free food options in New Orleans if you're into that sort of thing. The Hare Krishna dinner (Sundays at 8PM at 2936 Esplanade) is even better than Hare Krishna dinner usually is, and they basically leave you alone religiously unless you're actually interested.
