Hitchhiking WEST toward : Baton-Rouge, Lafayette, Houston, Texas, Mexico, California :
Hitchhiking in Louisiana is funny and beautiful. Get to the right spot and you'll get a great ride fast. I personally waited 10 seconds.

Followed all those step and you'll get a 5 Stars SPOT, LIKE THE SPOT !!!

Get the street car ( its like a tramway, but down there they call it a street car?!?) (http://www.norta.com/) that goes on Canal Street ( start from the Mississippi river and goes up all the way to a cemeteries ). 1.25$ one ride or 1.50 for transfer ticket if you get another bus before that.
So hop on this street car all the way up to the stop call cemeteries ( This is the last one up far from the Mississippi river and you'll see tombs everywhere )
From there, even though tempting to get to the I-10 straight, I strongly advice you to NOT do that except if you are a girl you a crazy bas ass lucky hitchhiker. There is just no room for car to stop but take a guess if you feel so.

So at this time you'll get to another bus, the jefferson transit ( http://www.jeffersontransit.org/schedules/E1Veterans-Map.htm ) , 1.5$ and prepare exact money, no change there !
From the street car, walk up to city park avenue, turn right on it and after take left on Canal Blvd. You'll see a small loop with 2 bus stops on it ( don't walk too far, take the 1st loop ) .
You need to hop on the E1 route : http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=116287600687409230633.00044b7975c7ce390c427&ll=29.993746,-90.185223&spn=0.112545,0.160675&z=13
Down there they call this bus the Veterans bus since it goes far on Veteran's Blvd.

You need to get off before the I-10 on Veterans' Blvd. Its about 15/25 minutes ride. You'll be on a long Blvd for a while and you'll see at some point the HighWay, just hop off before you pass under it or tell the driver you are a hitchhiker and need to hitchhiker to Baton-Rouge he'll tell you the spot. Look the map and you'll see where the I-10 and Veterans Blvd crossed. You need to stop just before it.

There you walk on the On-Ramp, GET A SIGN, and you'll see lot of gaz station on the way
Good luck, for more info [email protected]
