Due to its lengthy name, the state is often abbreviated as '''MV''', and sometimes also shortened to '''Meck-Pomm'''.

It adjoins to [[Poland]] in the east, [[Brandenburg]] in the south, [[Niedersachsen]] in the west and [[Schleswig-Holstein]] in the north-west. It's capital is [[Schwerin]].  You can find the ''Mecklenburgischen Seenplatte'' there, an rural area with beautiful lakes. In total you can find over 2,000 lakes in this rural state.
