Nelson to Christchurch in New Zealand, first ride of 15 minutes with drop-off on a supposedly better hitching place, second with an English truck-driver (apparently also on the list of the most nomadic-friendly professions!) for 45 minutes to a scenetic spot, and the last for the remaining 4 hours with a couple of young dudes in a nice new car for 4 hours all the way to ChCh central to meet up with my friends there. About 5 hours in all, pretty damn nice considering the busride with detours and stops in between I ended up doing later lasted around 8!
Thinking back, the first hitch-experience might actually be the scooter-ride with some Asian business guy to get from downtown Panjim, Goa a few kilometers up the hill to Dona Paula - I was most likely just asking directions (been a while so details are fuzzy) to get there by bus and the guy knew the house I needed to visit and was going closeby himself, so just gave me a ride anywayinstead.
