If going north, this might be the best option: Take a tram towards ''Brackwede''. At ''Brackwede'' train station, get out and walk down to the tunnel. Go direction north-west (well, or to your left) where you'll recognize a meadow. Cross this field towards the street, where you recognize a traffic light some 100m further up. You're not in the Bielefeld district of ''Quelle''. Walk straight forward over the crossing, and after maybe 50m you'll find enough space for yourself to start hitchhiking. Traffic mainly comes from the left side, slowly, moving up towards Halle or further. Cars can stop easily along the hard shoulder. Additionally, you could ask at the supermarket just next to you, but traffic might be very very local there.
