Frankfurt is a major city in HessenHesse, Germany. It is an air, rail and road transport hub, so you will find many people travelling out of the city in many different directions.
==Hitching out===== All directions =Hitchhiking in ==Perhaps the best spot for getting rides out of Frankfurt in every direction is on the B8, on the start of the Theodor-Heuss-Allee near the centre of the city.
Underneath If you are coming from the “Messeturm” skyscraper is a roundabout connecting Theodor-Heuss-Alleenorth (Netherlands; Cologne, Düsseldorf, Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage etc.) and Senkenberganlage. Take U-Bahn underground line U4your ride is not going directly to Frankfurt am Main, or Straßenbahn tram lines 16 or 17but continuing towards the south instead, and get off ask your driver to drop you out at the Medenbach service station at the stop “Festhalle/Messe”A3. It lies some 35 km northwest of Frankfurt. The roundabout This is a very busy service station and you should be easily visibleable to quickly find a ride directly to central Frankfurt. If you miss that stop, there won't be any other good places to be dropped out until close to Darmstadt (unless of course, the driver is willing to make a detour to leave you at Frankfurt Airport).
The spot is a bus stop on the Theodor-Heuss-Allee (see image), about 20 metres after the roundabout. Theodor-Heuss-Allee is the main road without a Straßenbahn tram line following along it. It is the road in the direction A86/A3 (among others), and the bus stop is under a tall hotel.== Hitchhiking out ==
Traffic is very busy here every day from 7:00 to 20:00. The traffic moves slowly. Although this looks like an almost-perfect hitchhiking spot=== North (Kassel, it is still in the centre of a large city Hannover), West (Wiesbaden, Mainz) and so expect a waiting time of 30–60 minutes. There is a reasonable chance of finding other hitchhikers at this spot.South (Karlsruhe, Strasbourg, Basel) 5 ===
If you prefer not to take public transport, then from the “Hauptbahnhof” central train station walk north for approximately 15 minutes. Look for the dark red Messeturm skyscraper (nickname “The Pencil”, which gives a clue to it's appearance) and walk towards it along the main road. From there, look for the roundabout.Option 1
=== North (Kassel, Hannover) and South (Karlsruhe, Strasbourg, Freiburg) 5===Take tram No. 17 from Central Station till the last stop "Am Rebstockbad", takes you about 10 minutes. You can already see the motorway, which leads 300m later A good spot for both directions getting rides out of the A5. When you arrive at the gas station that heads into Frankfurt there in every direction is a bridge 200 meter away. Cross on the bridge to B8, on the other side start of the motorway, at this gas station almost every car will go either north or south Theodor-Heuss-Allee near the center of the A5city. The next gas station in the north spot is "Wetterau"a bus stop on Theodor-Heuss-Allee, which is usually quite about 40 metres after a good spot for long ridesroundabout next to Messeturm skyscraper. But this gas station also has lots of potentialTake the U-Bahn line U4, some more experiences are needed though! Twice Wukk found a ride after 5 minutesor Straßenbahn line 16 or 17, one straight to Hamburg, one Festhalle/Messe. Or walk from the Hauptbahnhof north for approximately 15 minutes to "Raststelle Wetterau"Messeturm skyscraper.
=== East Traffic is very busy and slow here every day from 7:00 to Würzburg, Nürnberg, Czech Republic 3 ===<map lat='5020:00.08661105760373' lng='8The rate at which people pick up hitch hikers here is reportedly very low (twits will also make a variety of offensive gestures at you so be prepared) but with so much traffic going in every direction you can eventually get a ride.706235885620117' zoom='14' view='3' float='right' />
Take for example U-Bahn 1, 2 or 3 from main railroad station to Südbahnhof. (There are multiple ways to get to Südbahnhof, just pick one of them.) In front of the station there are a couple of bus stops, take bus number 30 or 36 to The next good hitch hiking spot on A5/E451 in northern direction “Sachsenhauser Hainer Weg” and get out at the stop at Sachsenhauser street. Road 3 is right beside you, Raststätte Wetterau and there is a restplace where you better spot to look for longer rides so try to get by running across the road. This is a hitchhiking spot par excellence, lots of cars passing it all the time and it is easy ride to pull off there. Think twice if someone offers you a ride to the petrol station nearby, by taking it you will lose this spot and might end up waiting for hoursare heading north.
If you're a Frankfurt university student...
...then you probably have a Semesterticket giving you free rides on RMV transport. If you're going long distances, then use your Semesterticket to get yourself as far on your journey as possible! This also applies to anyone with a Hessenticket.
* For all destinations North eg. Niedersachsen, Hamburg, Bremen, Denmark, and East eg. Thuringia, Sachsen, Brandenburg, Berlin, Poland, first take a train to Alsfeld, and use the service station near there (journey time 90–120 minutes from Frankfurt, but can be well worth it).
* For all destinations South eg. Baden-Württemberg, Strasbourg, Switzerland, first take a train to Bickenbach, and use the service station near there (journey time also 90–120 minutes from Frankfurt, not such a wonderful place as Alsfeld but it can still help).
== Food ==Option 2 * Take Utram No. 17 from Frankfurt DB main train station until the last stop "Am Rebstockbad" (Map. This takes you about 10 minutes. Take bus number 30 or 36 from the central train stationto the stop Sachsenhausen - Hainer Weg.** Standing Bundesstraße 3 (Babenhäuser Landstraße) is right at the busstop, there is a restarea which you can reach by crossing the road.
