Tell the driver that you want to get off near the '''''Puente Lusitania''''' (Lusitania Bridge) in Viña del Mar. Go to the other side of the bridge and turn left (east). After 500m you will see a roundabout where motorway begins. Hitch there with a sign. A lot of the traffic will be heading southeast to Santiago by motorways 62 and 5, so you can make a sign "Peaje Llay Llay", which is a huge toll plaza located on the Panamerican Higway 5, twenty km south from La Calera. From there you can hitch either south to Santiago, east to San Felipe, Los Andes and Mendoza or north to La Serena.

At the "peaje el melón" just before southern end of the tunnel and like 10 minutes after La Calera, then just wait in avenue there is a beginning of the tool gate motorway 68 with a COPEC petrol station. It's a perfect spot for hitching. Make a truck or sign. There will be no trucks, but it's easy to find a carlift with cars and they usually go to the centre of Santiago.

'' --[edit[User:Dr.Keith|Keith]] Going SouthTake Another option is to take a micro (mini bus ) in Valparaiso Valparaíso to Placilla or in Viña to Placilla (406) and leave the bus in the entrance of placillato Placilla, then walk like 500 meters to the last gas petrol station , which is COPEC (copec - there are 3 gas stationthree petrol stations in a row) always walking neart near the highway and after . After the copec COPEC there is a curve were where all the trucks leave the city and it is very easy to catch a truck over there, not one. Not all the trucks go to Santiago so try to take one to going straight there or get off at the last toll plaza before Santiago, called ''Peaje Lo Prado'' and leave the truck catch another lift. == Hitchhiking in some gas station ==If you happen to be going to Valparaíso and your driver is going to Viña del Mar, your fastest option is to get off in RUTA 5 (Placilla located 12 km south direction) after Americo Vespucio from Valpo. From there you can take a micro (another highwaymini bus)going to the city centre. It should cost around 600 pesos.
