On this portion of the highway there are no major human settlements, and most people on the road are going long distances. Hitching this road is a truck-stop hopping game. Most truck drivers are not allowed to pick up passengers because of insurance reasons, so understand when they say no. However, it is still worth asking drivers as they get out of their cars at the fuel lines. It has happened that a sour trucker complains to management, in which case a gas station attendant will ask you to stop approaching drivers. If this happened, start being more subtle. You can tell if a truck is going long distance if it has space for sleeping in the car behind the drivers seat. All of these truck stops have separate gas lines for trucks and cars, so you can decide if you want to work truckers or personal cars.
