Abkhazia is a political entity on the eastern coast of the Black Sea and the south-western flank of the Caucasus whose status is disputed. It considers itself an independent state (the Republic of Abkhazia). This is recognised by Russia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Nauru, South Ossetia and Transnistria.
It was a part of Georgia and most countries, including Georgia and also the UN still consider it as a part of Georgia. Entering Abkhazia is illegal according to Gerorgian Georgian laws. That's why travelling from Russia via Abkhazia to Georgia is considered entering Georgia illegally.
Transit
Traveling from Russia towards Georgia seems not to be possible.
; towards Russia
There are rumors rumours that the borders have reopened and travelers travellers can go via Georgia to Abkhazia and further into Russia. Appropriate visa are necessary. Keep in mind though that you won't get an exit-stamp by the Georgians, and thus when entering Georgia another time, you'll most likely be not able to enter the country due to an missing exit stamp from the last time.
