Kultuk (Russian: Култук) is a settlement located at the southernmost tip of Lake Baikal, in the Irkutsk Oblast region. The population is mostly Buryats. The water in Baikal at Kultuk is muddy and shallow due to the inflow of the river, making it less suitable for swimming.

Hitchhikers pass through the settlement when traveling between Irkutsk and Buryatia, and sometimes leave a car at the turn towards Mondy, heading for Khubsugul.

North towards Irkutsk

Option 1 - First Serpentine Curve

Walk to the first serpentine curve. Stand at the sharpest right turn, where you will be visible and cars slow down. Do not hitchhike with trucks; it is very difficult for them to start moving and they will climb uphill at a walking speed.

North-East towards Slyudyanka and Buryatia

Option 1 - Damaged Railway Crossing

There are streetlights.

Option 2 - Rosneft Gas Station

Located at the exit from town. There is no point in going further, as the ascent to the bridge over the Kultuchnaya River and the Transsib begins.

South towards Mondy

Option 1 - Turn from the Irkutsk Trakt

Hitchhike at the turnoff, filtering out all local Kultuk traffic.

Option 2 - Minibus to "Kultuk-Garage" Stop

A minibus runs about once every 40 minutes to the "Kultuk-Garage" stop at the far end of the settlement.

Option 3 - Walk to the Railway Crossing

Head on foot to the railway crossing over the Transsib.

Option 4 - "Kraisneft" Gas Station

Located further past the garage, this is the last building in the settlement near the exit sign. There are no streetlights here.
