Hitchhiking out

South towards Suzdal and Vladimir via M7

Option 1 - Turnoff to Lebyazhy Lug

Take bus No. 117 from Ploshchad Pobedy or the bus station to the turnoff to Lebyazhy Lug. The hitchhiking spot is right after the turn. Note that bus 117 runs rather infrequently.

Option 2 - Airport Turnoff (Lezhnevskoye Highway)

You can get here on foot from the "Podstantsiya" stop (turn onto Tekstilshchikov Avenue; many buses go here, such as 141, 136). Walk forward for a bit more than a kilometer along Lezhnevskoye Highway. There are several petrol stations, then a turnoff towards the airport (to the right)—cross it and stand a bit further. There is a traffic light here and cars go slowly; you also don't need to wait for the infrequent 117 bus.

North towards Kostroma via A113

Take bus or marshrutka (minibus) No. 2 (with or without letter suffix) or No. 39, which goes along Frunze Street to the “8th Mineevskaya” stop—here the transport turns left onto the highway. Further travel makes little sense; hitchhike near the last car centre towards Kostroma. The nearest practical destination is Furmanov.

Northeast towards Rodniki via R80

Take bus No. 115, 116, 126, or 12 to the stop "Povorot na Gorino" (Turnoff to Gorino).

Southeast towards Shuya via A113

Take bus No. 120 to its final stop "Bogdanikha." Two kilometres closer to Ivanovo is the town of Kokhma, where dozens of buses, marshrutkas and even a trolleybus go. Disembark at the “Internat” stop.

Northwest towards Gavrilov-Yam and Yaroslavl via R79

The exit is in the settlement of Novo-Talitsy, which you can reach from the centre by marshrutka 141; get off at the turn after the "Novo-Talitsy" stop. Walk a little further and turn right; the hitchhiking spot is after the turn for Yaroslavl, past the bus stop.

Hitchhiking in

From the M7 there is a dedicated entrance road leading directly to the centre of Ivanovo.

Several trains from Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Suburban trains (diesel or hybrid):

  • To Kineshma, Yaroslavl (diesel)
  • To Kovrov (diesel)
  • To Alexandrov (diesel)
  • To Moscow, Vostochny station ("Lastochka" via Shuya, up to Kovrov as a DMU, then as an EMU)

From late 2020, all suburban trains on the Ivanovo network are either RA-3 diesels of 2–3 carriages (sometimes 4), or hybrid "parrot" diesel-trains up to Kovrov, then operating under electrification. The classic suburban trains with older "babushkas" no longer operate in this area of the Northern Railway.
