Cholpon-Ata is the main touristic spot of the Issyk-Kul Lake in Kyrgyzstan.

Hitching out

West to Bishkek

Just thumb from the main road out of the town. Best place is the end of the town in Western direction, there is a market and an old Lenin monument. Direct lifts to Bishkek should not be hard to find.

East to Karakol

Walk to the end of the town and start hitching on the road. You might have to walk a little bit until you find a place where cars can stop easily. Try to find a direct lift to Karakol.

Accommodation and Sleep

Friendly old women are very interested to rent rooms for you. Nearly every house in this town seems to have a room reserved for guests, so bargain hard and you will see that in this place with bad "touristic" reputation, things will not be as expensive as they seem.
