Cancun International Airport is the main airport of Mexico, it is located 18 km south of Cancun.
Hitching out
It isn't hard. you could either walk 2,5km to the clover leaf intersection with the highway (on which of course you can also hitch, it's Mexico) or just thumb at the place where the access roads from all the terminals have met. You can easily sleep here, Zenit recommends the spots under the stairs in terminal 3. If you're flying from terminal 2, there's excellent table diving right behind the security gates.
