Getting out of Hanoi is pretty easy if you go by bus to the beginning of the Expressway. It's a good place to get a ride.
On the Hanoi - Saigon highway hitching with trucks is very easy.
Not sure if this is a good hitching spot, but it's streets of Hanoi
