On the August 7th of August , 2009 (7/8/9), hitchhikers from all over the world will team meet up in Odessa, Ukraine, for the second 2nd European Hitchhiking Festival: Week-"The 789 Project".
The festival demonstrates that even in the century age of motorways and low-cost airlines, the hitchhiking community is still very much alive. Each Every year thousands of people hitchhike all over the world; in . In many countries it , hitchhiking is still a common an "official"means of transporttransportation. Our goal is The hitchhiking community seeks to help people realise show that sharing their your car and swapping stories by picking up with a hitchhiker can turn out to be a great fantastic human experience. The hitchhiking community wants to promote thumbing a ride as a way of travelingin an increasingly individualistic world.
The festival is will take place in Odessa, but the adventure starts will be starting on your doorstep! Each participant is invited to contribute to the event with stories, pictures and videos. Last year (088/088/20088) , a group of filmmakers directed Paris 888, a feature documentary movie was even produced about 4 hitchhikers travelling to the event888 project.
Journalists are also invited to join the European Hitchhiking Festival. They can team up with experienced hitchhikers and take part in the preparatory meetings taking place all over Europe from the 1st - 6th August. To get the latest news from the road, they can also follow the adventures of a group of hitchhikers and call them to hear their updates and stories from the road.
