− | Sardegna is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean See and an autonomous province of Italy.
| |
− | | |
− | Hitchhiking seems to be possible there, reports from different people told us that waiting time is a bit longer, but possible as everywhere.
| |
− | Jason hitched here in April 2008 without problem and traveled 70km through the mountains to Cagliari in two rides in around one hour thirty. People seem to be really friendly.

− | For getting onto the island, RyanAir for example offers extremely cheap flights to Alghero.

− | hitching in sardegna is fairly easy. public transport is difficult. there are only few trains from olbia to cagliari, about 300 km and the trip takes a whole day. it is a bit faster with busses but people are very hitchhiker friendly and will take you. there is no autostrada like on the continent where hitchhiking is forbidden, only a 4-lane road between cagliari and sassari resp. olbia and olbia-sassari. you can stand everywhere and try to thumb down a car. on the 4-lane road cars are driving often really fast so make sure that you are visible from afar.
| |
− | avoid hitching on a sunday, there are mainly families on the road and the cars are full. and on the main road you can be lucky and get a long-distance lift, or you get lifts only for 10 km. be patient. usually you don't have to wait a long time.

− | sardegna is the easiest place to hitch in whole italy.
