- Hello. Before discovering this place for discussion I already filled some boxes eg about Virgin hh, Poland and the Netherlands. On one hand this wiki is a good idea, because it has some (very small) potential to become an interesting source of information. However, I am not expecting this at all. Which does not need to mean anything. Any new business usually takes some time - up to three or five years - to make a little bit more than it costs, and so it might be with this initiative. As for what I've read it's some kind of start. However, I have doubts about the general neutrality of the content for now. For example - I read that a country can be skipped if an attempt to hitchhike there does not succeed. What a bullshit! This may be reasonable for random long distance travellers, however many people who hitchhike do so for very different reasons. For example because they don't have money, because there is no public transport and so on. Hitchhiking in the Netherlands "is possible". "It's possible" for some, for others it is easy, not just possible. So, my comment is a very positive one - I hope - which tries to say. What is the neutral point of view? Ah, I see that the hitchhikers point of view is wanted. If so, what is a hitchhiker, and what is the hitchhikers point of view? If a non-hitchhiker wanted to hitchhike out of town, what would be his or her point of view? That's all. It's an ambitious project you're thinking of. All the best with it. Regards Frank Verhart. Note - please don't copy information (text) from my website. It is copyrighted material that I do not offer for publication elsewhere. PS - I don't like the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

- Hey Hitchhikers! Just joined == Mainpage ==I just took the old news out of the new hitchhiking wiki here-- whew! mainpage news template. Now there have been a few moves in these last 2 yearsis quite some free space. However, hope we are all able to make this a permanent stay here on hitchwiki.org.I contributed think it is good to hitchhikingguide.org keep the mainpage simple and hitchhiking.wikia.com but do not feel too overloaded (and also keep in future just the need to mark which contributions belong to me within this new wikilast 10 site news entries). As you will see from my user Any suggestions about what could be added there or how the page, could be reordered? I am creator/webmaster/co-editor of digihitch.com. Some would suggest to move the picture of the information I personally collected for digihitch I will now to the left column and also share here, and as put there a field with all hitchhikers I have a ton of info that has not yet been written. As I hitchhike primarily in the USA, I will have most to contribute to that section. important content with a symbol (Don't believe the misinformation found on the webe.g.. there are still tens of thousands of general info Top Tips, Where, Safety, Signs, First time, Picking up hitchhikers in the USA, country info).I -and Maybe one of the digihitch community- would really appreciate it if you cite digihitch.com for all information you collect from there. The website is community-run design and has been the hard work of many world hitchhikers graphic program gifted people could make some icons for over 5 years. Support our community when possible and all hitchhikers will benefit! I must admit that I was opposed to a hitchhiking wiki when Teppo first suggested it to me in April 2005this. We at digihitch.com had just launched our digihitch World section and I believed that all information would It might also be best shared there among registered members worth to think about which content is important for new people (without all e.g. move the spam maintenance required of a wiki), but since that time I understand site news - what is normally for the value of a wiki such as this and will attempt more frequent users - to share unbiased contributions where possiblethe right bottom side.Revel and Roll, .. --Morgan 'Salman'Alex 2119:38 01 December 2006 28, 23 July 2008 (UTCCEST)
=== Writing style ===:: I would also suggest to fix the edit buttons in the top box. Looks quite annoying and I guess that this box anyway doesn't need much editing, so maybe we should set it to admin edit only. News, pics, events etc. then can still be edited through the templates, of course. I was feeling that it would be more interesting and correct to split the ::: agree, doesn'factual information' of the 'personnal experience', be that t make much sense since these boxes are not much edited in the factual information about a hitching spot comes first while the personnal ones would come in a different paragraph which follows. It would give a more professionnal look to the cities or country pages instead of having to read the subjective point of view of one person everytime, which is interestingplace and as you say, but the factual reading is usually providing a straight to other boxes can still be edited by anyone through the point information that is often quickly needed. Also, I would like : wanted to propose to add. It would be great if rearrange the information given is boxes, one for wiki-news, one for general news, one for events, one for stories (upcoming), and one for 3 (through rss) most of recent (planet) blogs. I think the time somehow verified instead of being disclaimed. As general news should be on many pagestop (left), then events, then stories. == Overview Language of place name ==- For me, it always takes to long to find a specific country on the mainpage (especially in europe), because countries, continent-parts and cities are mixed. I would suggest removing at least the cities and maybe also the continent-parts (I think it's more likely that people are looking for a specific country). Does anyone agree with me? :) --MrTweek 15:41, 3 December 2006 (CET)
Can we set some standards for place names? An example, what to use for Brugge (I just bumped into it)? It's now to be found under Bruges, which I think is wrong. Cities should be put under the name they are known in the country they are and if necessary there can be a redirection page for foreign-language versions of the name.:YeahI think we already had that discussion a long time ago, and agreed to use the English names, wherever they are common. This seemed most logical for an English-speaking wiki. In general, we try to stick to wikipedia's standards for that. I think it's not so much of an issue, because we always try to set redirects for all possible languages, so too. Iteveryone will always find what one's good looking for. (Although we are not really consequent, like at Köln). == Reorganization ==:::: 'I wouldn't add list of hitchhikers visible by default' - Why not? Because there are not all contributers? Not a big thing in my opinion, not everybody wants to be linked there and it could be named accordingly. I can't think of any other reasons... but I am curious to get to know some more views on this. ::::: I think this wiki is quite personal already with or without hichhikres- I tried organize the photos and whatnot list. My top reason was to prevent main page to look a little better, but I can't really make it look good. Someone grow too heavy with an aesthetic eye needs to handle it. Maybe itlot's just because of my resolution (1024) but the pictures block out all text in the left column making it all drop down below the picture. This leaves a huge whitespace gap /link mass, though i'd also like to see some quick way to the left of the pictures and doesn't look very nicebrowse active hitchwiki-users. Another thing I noticed is that even though the columns are all 33%-Mikael 17:17, the left column is smaller than the middle column because of margins. If we could even that up it might fix the above problem with the pictures.26 January 2009 (UTC)

lifterhalte.info .... how do we manage to login there? I did create point in the past but now I can't log anymore as it put me as 'invalid'? Why isn't it the same information than on the wiki? -MaplefantaMikael 0217:0635, 21 October 2007 31 May 2010 (CESTUTC)

Yep, good idea. I'm asking myself if the list of hitchhikers is that useful? Maybe we should have the General Info about First time, etc. there, but remove some stuff you'll find yourself if you're going deeper into the hitchhiking stuff (like Boats, Planes, Trains)... So for that the news can be more visible (to see that there's activity...) etc. Also the list of countries is a bit annoying, we can add some more new countries (thanks to User:worldhitch ;) ) like Brunei etc. For that the list is getting bigger and bigger, and someday it will be impossible to list all 192+ states of the world there :) Maybe we can track the list more down. What about the pictures. hm... no idea, but currently it's not the best solution. About the new header, it's using 1/3 of my screen, it's definitely too big! :) (Remember, not everyone has a 17" Wide-screen Monitor). And, can someone delete the list Based on work by at the main page? It's blowing up my screen. In some browsers it's fixed I guess, but not for Safari and Firefox :( Hm...something else? :) Want more people in the chat ! However, you must be aware that older browsers do not support .SVG files and I'm not sure if one of the newer (aka the piece of junk from M$) ones does. First of all: Hitchwiki is linked to wikimedia commons. That means, you can find just use any file uploaded to wikimedia commons here. And that is also the article when reason for your error message: If you upload a file, that is also uploaded to wikimedia commons, you would replace it locally. This is fine, you click can do that. It doesn't make much sense to upload the same file again, though.: It doesn't really matter wether a browser supports svg. The wiki renders them to png pr jpg anyway. But it can render them in a much better quality, no matter which size they will have. So, in general, SVG is always better than PNG or JPG, but not always possible.: I think bandwith is not so much of an issue nowadays. All modern browsers support on -the-fly-compression anyway, so it will probably not make any difference at all. --MrTweek at 21:18, 23 August 2010 (UTC) == Navigation == On the right side sucks, BIG time...  And while I'm writing this, the table with foreign characters shows as a series of "charinsert" tags, possibly because it's missing a final '}' Prino (talk) 20:52, 1 October 2012 (CEST):And the colour of the links, a horrible blue also stinks.
