Hitching in '''Spain''' is not as good as in some other European countries. You usually have to wait for some time - but those who pick you up at last tend to be ''really'' nice.
It seems waiting at ''autopista'' toll stops isn't allowed though.
In Spain it is very important to talk to drivers. At gassation, walk up to drivers and ask them where they are heading to. Knowing some sentences in Spanish helps you a lot.
