After awhile I decided I don’t want to put my thumb out anymore, and just started to walk instead,
people tend to stop to ask why am I walking and then they usually offer food, shelter and rides even without thumbing” - [[User:SonOfaHitch|SonOfaHitch]]

here in 2017 twice. 1st time (5 days) delta > Yurimaguas > Huancayo > Peru/Chile border. 2nd time (5 weeks due to dog bite-got 5 rabies shots, over 4 weeks, that was free at the public hospitals) Boliva border at lake titicaca > Cusco > Machu Picchu via walking the railway track > ausangate and rainbow mountain > nascar lines > lima > lake 69 > colca canyon and mt chachani summit > Equador border (El Alamor/Lalamor).
Be very careful around dogs, many were insanely aggressive/territorial when i walked past, constantly trying to bite the back of my legs. Craziest country for mad dogs i have ever been.
pickups were mostly by truck drivers, 60%. Cars 35% and bikes/busses 5%. average waiting time 45 minutes. Got bought meals a few times. camping was easy outside of towns or in the mountains, just make sure you have barrier between you and dogs (tent). Never got invited to drivers house.
