Many tourists stop their itinerary in San Martin de los Andes, only few continue to [[Junin de los Andes]], mostly travellers which go back to Buenos Aires by car.  Still, RN40 remains trafficked enough to get a hitch within a reasonable time.

=== South towards [[Villa La Angostura]] and [[Bariloche]] on RN40 ===

This stretch of RN40 has loads of tourist traffic. Try to catch other tourists which will let you stop once in a while. After two thirds of the way, there is a turnoff to [[Villa Traful]] on RP65, which is a more remote and as scenery route as the popular RN40. However, travelling here will make you miss most of the road part at Lago Nahuel Huapi. '''Be careful!''': there is no phone coverage in the entire stretch from San Martín de los Andes to Villa la Angostura. That means approximately 100 km with no signal. It's something to be kept in mind if you're planning on spending at least one night in some campsite.

San Martin de los Andes is very expensive. There is an ACA camp spot when leaving the town on RN40 towards North.
