I tried another spot to hitch out of Leipzig eastwards in the direction of Dresden (A14) yesterday: After trying described option 1 for about an hour without getting any lifts, we made our way to a Shell petrol station which is located at the B87 (Torgauer Str.) right before the Autobahn junction. To get there from city center, use tram 3 in direction Taucha, for example from the main station, and get off at "Portitzer Allee", then walk about 150m back along the road you came (you can see the petrol station from the tram). We were a group of four and yet after about 15min we found a lift for all of us there, since it's the last refueling opportunity before the Autobahn.
