Hitchhiking out

Westward Direction (Frankfurt am Main, Kassel, Eisenach)

and

Eastward Direction (Dresden, Berlin)

To reach autobahn A4 / E40 take bus 6 direction LEGEFELD and get of at 'Einkaufszentrum Humboldtstraße'. Walk towards the main road 'Berkaer Straße' (B85). People driving there are only commuting but they can take you until the autobahn interchange of A4. You have to wait between 5 and 30 minutes until cars stop. Alternatively you can walk 15 to 20 minutes to the autobahn.

For 4.30 € (08.2019) you can also take the train to Vieselbach and then the bus to Eichelborn. From there you have to walk towards the Autobahn for 10 minutes. Just walk next to it and in 5 minutes you will reach the Gasstation "Raststätte Eichelborn süd". From there you can easily find People who are heading to Berlin (A9) or Dresden (A4). I went southwards to Hof and it worked as well.

Eastward Direction (Jena)

Go to the intersection on B7 of 'Friedensstraße', 'Jenaer Straße', 'Hans-Wahl-Straße' and 'Tiefurter Allee' (find the address on GOOGLE-maps). This should not take longer than five minutes walking from the city center of Weimar. There is a traffic light with plenty of cars passing by and long red-phases. Almost every third car passing this point travels to Jena from here as taking autobahn A4 would be a detour.

Westward Direction (Erfurt)

Go on 'Erfurter Straße' (B 85) close to 'Weimar Berkaer Bahnhof'. There are two or three petrol stations with plenty of customers travelling to Erfurt. Walking here from the city center should not take longer than 10 minutes.
