Hey there, I wrote this in the mailing list and Im unsure if its the kind of info to put on the article, and if so, Id need some help with the wording. Ill just paste it here: Maybe something to add to the corona article is some rational thinking on why hitching is safer than going by train / bus / blablacar? When confronted by people because of saying I hitch when needed I usually explain that since my rides are normally short ones and between popular cities, I trend to get a single ride to my destination and usually its just me and the driver. I follow hygienic principles for myself but like I said before: I still haven't found many people that take covid seriously... so yes its a risk, but mostly for me as its clear to me this people are spreading their germs shamelessly with or without me anyways. Anyhow, I have taken the train and used blablacar as well and have to say that blablacar is basically the same as hitchin but im usually in a packed car with everybody sharing them scary droplets. Trains have high hygienic standard as they are enforced but then im in an enclosed wagon with tons of people that keep getting on and off. Also, most of the times i have to change trains and be in at least 3 packed train stations per travel (as opposed to lonesome petrol stations and deserted highway ramps). So all in all, even if id be so unlucky as to need more than 5 rides from berlin to hamburg (which is practically impossible) id be posing a far smaller risk to society and to myself in terms of covid than by using other means of transportation. And lets not talk about flixbucks returns! thats some covid exchange party on wheels! And, for those who to all that say that I should nevertheless stay home I say that I generally travel out of necessity so its not an option for me plus im broke so in my mathbook hitching seems like the best way to go. Also since tests have become quite cheap I test myself when I consider it important (like when I come back to my community where there's older people living). Hope its useful.--Warlo (talk) 01:53, 29 April 2021 (CEST)
