Kansk (Russian: Канск) is a city in Russia, located in the east of Krasnoyarsk Krai. For many years it was notable for not having a bypass road, causing many hitchhikers traveling between Krasnoyarsk and Irkutsk to pass through it and lose time getting back onto the highway. Now, the city has a proper southern bypass.

Hitchhiking out

East towards Tayshet on the "Sibir" highway R255 (formerly M53)

Option 1 - Bus #13 after "Vostochnoye" Cafe

From the railway station, take bus #13 and get off at the stop after "Vostochnoye" cafe, at the end of Dekabristov street. The bus won't bring you all the way to the checkpoint, but even at this stop the spot is great: wide shoulder, cafe nearby, low speed, and good visibility.

Option 2 - Bus to "DRSU-3" Stop

Buses #13 or #18 to the "DRSU-3" stop, about 1.5 km to the ring road junction at the end of the bypass.

Southwest towards Krasnoyarsk on the "Sibir" highway R255

Option 1 - Bus 4 or 4A to "Dachi"

To the ring junction on the bypass, you can take city buses 4 or 4A, the stop is called "Dachi".
