Hitchhiking out

South towards Bordeaux (N10)

From the center of town, find the Route de Bordeaux. Walk down it towards La Couronne until you reach the roundabout with the DIY store on it. turn right on that roundabout and then left across the N10 bridge. You will then be on a roundabout on the edge of St. Michel. To your left you will see an entrance on to the Nationale with space for cars to pull in. DO NOT accept rides from drivers who offer to drop you anywhere near Barbezieux because there is almost no traffic heading onto the N10 from the Barbezieux entrances and you will spend a lot of time waiting there. There's also a bus going to the hospital which will drop you pretty close to the entrance to the national. The spot for the national entrance is very good (and much better than stopping on the roundabout before). You can wander down past the cones and there'll be a space for cars to pull in just before the road begins.

South towards Périgueux, Nontron or Ribérac (D939)

From the center of town, take the S6 bus toward Soyaux, and stop at "Epagnac" bus stop (the D bus goes there too). Walk further on rue d'Epagnac, along the Avenue du General de Gaulle (which is the D939). Then walk up on the Avenue du General de Gaulle, and hitchhike just before the bus stop (on the other side, this bus stop is called "Général de Gaulle" and it's on the 25 bus line), there is place there for cars to stop.[1]

North Towards Paris, Rennes, Niort, Poitiers (N10)

One possibility is to get to the Aire de Covoiturage de Combiers. If you don't feel like walking ages, take bus number 6 (2€) and get out at the stop Fontanson. You'll have 850metres to walk from there to the Covoiturage. There you can stick out a sign for somewhere further north...but don't get out at any of the small towns, there's little traffic there. Ruffec has a petrol station just before and should be the minimum you ask for. Moderately big for a National. From there you should be able to get a ride to Niort or Poitiers quite easily. Another possibility, if you don't feel like paying is walking to Route de Paris and walking until you find somewhere calmer and with less city traffic. Angouleme isn't so big, but it kind of sprawls into smaller towns/villages.

Accommodation and Sleep

In Angouleme, you can camp in the forest near the river on the Ile de Bourgines. Just ask people the way to the '"Musée de la BD"' and you will find it easily.

Other useful info

Finding food proved incredibly difficult for Jass in his time here. The larger stores are all far away in mall-like areas where bins are inaccessible. Central spots may work once figuring out the waste removal time.
