Hitching Out
===West towards North Wales & the Holyhead ferry===Almost all Liverpool traffic heading this way going to Wales will be taking use the A550 (Welsh Road) rather than , not the M53 which is for heading south. You need The best place to get across the Mersey to Birkenhead through the tunnels, then down the A41 until it crosses the M53 past Junction 5 stand is at a place called Hooton. Hitching the M53 from beginning of the city centre is a complete headache & not recommendedA550. By public transport you can To get to the A550 by taking there, take a bus down the A41, or by take a train to Hooton station then turning right onto Hooton road, then right down follow the A41 until you reach signs saying 'North Wales' (the turn-off. The A550 is unfortunately extremely narrow & there are very few sites for people to pull in (one small one about 20 minutes walk from the station). There is behind a church)petrol station, but given don't bother trying it as no traffic going towards Wales seems to use it. Hitch on the large volume of traffic that A550 itself - it is going your way all in a single lanegood road, but is very narrow. There is an OK spot next to the church behind the petrol station, or you can walk for five minutes to a road junction where you should get on your way (we did have more space and better visibility. One group of hitchers got a ride in about 15 mins)minutes, and another lone hitcher got a ride in 30 minutes. Hitching the M53 from the city centre is a complete headache & not recommended.
East on the M62 to Manchester, Leeds & the M6 North & South
